The year of birth of the tropical print can be considered 1940, when the American designer Dorothy Draper came up with a pattern with Brazilliance Wallpaper banana leaves for printing on wallpaper. Two years later - in 1942 - another designer, Don Lauper, came up with his own version of a tropical print - Martinique wallpaper. Many decades have passed, but these two drawings have not lost their relevance and inspire artists around the world to create modern versions of this theme. Today, tropical print plays an important role in the fashion industry; it is actively used by furniture makers.
Tropical print: background or accent
You can use such a bright pattern in two ways: as a background and as an accent. Let’s figure out in which case each option would be most preferable.
A rich tropical print is an ideal candidate for an accent wall. It can be used in this way in almost any room. However, there are a number of details to consider. For example, in the bedroom it is better to place an accent wall with a tropical print behind the head of the bed: this way, this bright, active pattern will not cause negativity in the person who has just woken up and will not interfere with falling asleep in the evening.
Textiles are also a great way to incorporate a tropical print into your interior without taking any risks. With the help of curtains, pillows and blankets, you can easily transform a neutral interior, and, if desired, replace them. Tropical print is a rather active pattern, but this is not a reason to refuse to use it as a background. This color scheme will help you easily create a marine-style interior; white and blue will also look great in the bathroom. You can use various shades: blue, blue, ultramarine; not only white, but also ivory and light brown would also be appropriate. The main rule here: do not use bright accents of other colors, as this will violate the concept of the interior.

This is the most exciting part of bringing tropical style to life. After all, it involves the use of a sufficient number of different little things:
- The role of the main scenery, of course, allocated to indoor plants. However, not all of their varieties can be used. Tall plants with large leaves will fit perfectly and help recreate the atmosphere of a real tropics. Of course, the best option would be to buy a real palm tree in a wooden tub or ceramic pot, but not all of their species do well in our climate zone. Therefore, you can limit yourself to more adapted varieties - dracaena, chamedorea, date or coconut palm. Exotic plants such as cycas, ficus, and monstera are also suitable. Their leaves are quite large, have a rich green tint, and the plants themselves are able to grow to a decent size;
- Ceiling fans are a very interesting decorative element that can also be functional. You can even find chandeliers made or having blades in their design. It is preferable that they are made of wood. Models where the blades seem to be made of palm or banana leaves are also allowed;
- Small wicker baskets made of wicker or entwined with twine would be appropriate;
- A small folding wooden table can be placed in front of the sofa;
- If the floor is decorated with stone, it will be cold; you can cover it with a small rug with a motley ornament or a pattern imitating the skin of an animal;
- Paintings depicting foliage, tropical jungle and other elements of nature. Modular paintings will look good in spacious rooms;
- Small sofa cushions with bright patterns;
- Small animal figurines can be placed on chests of drawers;
- Natural pebbles are often found in such interiors. It can be used both for finishing entire walls or floors, and as decoration. To do this, just put pebbles in flower pots. You can also use white sand in beautiful glass vases;
- It’s great if there is a place in the house for a real aquarium or a cage with birds.
