Washing machine in the bathroom - placement options and interesting solutions for use in interior design

Basics of connecting a washing machine to a sink.

If you want to comfortably use a washing machine in an apartment, and there is no direct connection to the washing machine in the apartment, you can use the sink as an alternative. However, make sure that the bathroom furniture allows such a connection.

Many basic cabinets in the bathroom furniture space don't offer enough space or at the very least make installation extremely difficult. Of course, the height of the sink also plays a role. Also pay attention to the height of the vanity if you are remodeling the entire bathroom in this context.

Essentially, connecting a washing machine requires just three simple factors:

  • Connection to water supply.
  • Drain for rinsing water.
  • Connection to 230 volt network.

These three factors are usually easy to find in the bathroom, so it is more than logical to connect the washing machine directly to the sink. However, it usually requires slightly more accessories than connecting a washing machine.

Typically, the kit will include an inlet hose, as well as a drain hose and a matching hose clamp, but to actually install it on the sink, you'll need a matching angle valve. Otherwise, you will not be able to connect.

Accessories for connecting the washing machine to the sink.

In principle, installing a washing machine is not particularly difficult and can be done without experience or special knowledge. No special tools needed. But first of all, you should check the siphon on the sink.

As a rule, this siphon is not suitable for connecting a washing machine. The angle valve is usually simple and cannot be used. This means that to connect the washing machine to the sink, you will need at least one more.

To install the washing machine to the sink you will need:

  • Pocket siphon with 3/4" side connection.
  • Double spindle angle valve.
  • Hemp or sealing tape for additional sealing of pipe threads.

Pay attention to the quality and, for example, a good odor trap for the siphon.

More information about the water lily shell

The modern market offers a huge selection of plumbing fixtures for bathrooms. Among this wide assortment, the “water lily” deserves special attention. It is very functional and quite comfortable, takes up little space and therefore can fit well into almost any interior. And for a small bathroom this solution is ideal.

You can choose an oval, square or rectangular “water lily”. There are other non-standard models: with a side countertop or a mixer located in the corner.

The sink can have 2 types of drain: horizontal or vertical. The latter is more popular. According to many users, this type of drain drains water faster and is less prone to clogging. If you plan to place the washing machine under the sink, then from the point of view of electrical safety during operation of the device it will be much better if the drainage point is located outside its body in case of leakage or other unpleasant moments.

Advantages of installing a washing machine under the sink

The biggest advantage of such a set - a machine plus a sink - is its compactness, because this option allows you not only to place the machine in a small room, but also makes it possible to comfortably take water procedures.

Thanks to the huge variety of sizes, shapes and colors of water lily shells, you can bring any design idea to life, thereby giving the room an extraordinary look.

Assembling the washing machine step by step

  • Let's start by dismantling the old siphon. Place a bucket underneath to catch any standing water in the siphon.
  • Attach the new siphon. Use hemp or sealing tape to wrap the external threads to improve the seal.
  • Close the main water tap. If it's in your home, it's not a problem. If there is only one water tap for the entire house, you must inform the other occupants in advance.
  • Replace the old angle valve with a new two spindle angle valve. Make sure the threads are sealed and tight.
  • Connect the inlet and outlet hoses of the washing machine and secure them with a clamp. In the system, the inlet hose can be identified by a small plastic box. The drain hose is usually corrugated.
  • Check again that all hoses and clamps are in place.
  • Open the main water tap again.
  • Level the washing machine using a spirit level.
  • Connect the washing machine to the mains.
  • Test your washing machine.

If there are no problems, then the connection to the washing machine in the bathroom was successful. In many bathrooms, there is enough space next to the sink for a washing machine in the bathroom.

No. 3. Washing machine in a niche

If there is a niche in the bathroom or it is realistic to equip it, then we can consider that you have won the jackpot. This is an ideal place for a washing machine. Above it you can arrange a system of shelves for storing towels, bathrobes, other hygiene items or household chemicals. The niche with the machine can remain open, which is especially important when the depth of the niche is less than the depth of the machine, or can be covered. The latter option will be appreciated by those who like to disguise household appliances. You can do this in a number of simple ways:

  • cover the niche with an ordinary swing door, but this option is not available for every room, since the door will also need to be opened, and for this you need space;
  • roller shutters will perfectly hide the machine, the shelves, and all communications. When opened, they roll up under the ceiling and do not take up space at all, and when closed they look like a solid canvas, which can have the same color as the walls and be completely invisible. Many people prefer to do photo printing on roller shutters; the result is something like photo wallpaper in the bathroom. The main thing is that access to everything that is hidden can be obtained quite easily and quickly;
  • As a cheaper analogue of plumbing roller shutters, roller blinds, blinds and fabric drapery are used.

If the bathroom borders on a miniature storage room, then consider combining the rooms. You will end up with just a niche in which you can easily fit a typewriter, and use the space above it to great advantage.
