Eco-style in the bedroom interior: 10 design tips

Use natural shades

Wildlife is manifested in an ecological interior primarily through the palette. Choose the right colors and focus on natural shades: brown, green, sand, light blue. Do not use any dark or too variegated colors - the palette of the bedroom should be calm and organic.

History of origin

Eco-friendly interiors continue the trend of increased attention to preserving the natural environment. This design is suitable for people seeking coziness and comfort and caring about the environment.

There is no exact date for the emergence of eco-design. This style appeared not so long ago and adopted many features of other style solutions. It became most popular at the end of the twentieth century. Residents of megacities, tired of urbanism and widespread industrialization, began to actively introduce environmentally friendly style into the furnishings of their own homes.

Alvar Aalto is considered the founder of eco-design, who built residential buildings on the site of real trees. He built walls around the trunks. The results of his work are a tribute to the surrounding nature.

In the works of Alvar Aalto, environmental friendliness is harmoniously combined with comfort.

In the 90s of the twentieth century, when society began to pay more attention to the problem of preserving the environment, the concept of “eco-style” gained popularity. Recycled materials began to be used in the design of living spaces - this is how eco-design appeared.

Need a lot of wood

Natural wood is the main material for the chosen design. In finishing it can be present in all planes: in the form of laminate or parquet on the floor, beams under the ceiling or wooden wall panels. You can play with different wood shades and create a varied interior within the same room, but in this case you need to avoid obvious contrast. And also use imitation of untreated wood to bring the bedroom interior closer to the atmosphere of nature.

Floor covering

There are many alternatives for flooring an eco-style bedroom interior, but the main one is wood itself. For this, if possible, you can use parquet, wooden boards, or laminated boards. And put woven bamboo or cork mats on top just right.

Ceramic special colors also highlight the eco-friendly design. Despite the fact that they seem cold in appearance, there is always the opportunity to correct this by heating them.

Choose natural furniture...

The bed, wardrobe, bedside tables and other furniture should also be made of natural materials. In addition to the popular wood, rattan can be used, for example, in the form of wicker sofas or rocking chairs. The main thing is to avoid artificial plastic or metal - eco-style does not approve of them at all.

Color palette

Color therapy specialists believe that green and its various shades help to unite a person’s physical condition and spiritual world. In a bedroom where green predominates, your sleep will be deep and sound, and you will wake up well rested and alert.

Solid green in eco-bedrooms most often appears in combination with brown - this is the most natural combination of the color of earth, grass, and trees.

But you should be more careful with dark and overly saturated shades of green - they can, on the contrary, have a depressing effect on the human psyche. This applies to emerald tones, jade, etc. They can only be used as accents in small details.

... and natural finishing materials

What else is suitable for finishing a bedroom in eco-style besides wood? Paste thin paper wallpaper onto the walls to allow the room to “breathe,” or treat the surface with decorative plaster. Forget about vinyl or other synthetic wallpapers, they have no place here.

A more interesting option is to lay a section of wall or floor with stone, natural or artificial. And in eco-style, cork floors or walls would come in handy, because cork is the most environmentally friendly material of all.

Ceiling

As a rule, the ceiling is painted with calm white, beige and heavenly shades, or decorative plaster is also used in pastel colors. But the ceiling upholstered with narrow wooden panels also looks very impressive. Often in large country bedrooms the ceiling is decorated with wooden beams.

Lighting fixtures can be placed on these beams, for example, small frosted glass spots enclosed in a metal frame in the shape of a spotlight or cube. Or it will be one central laconic, but at the same time original chandelier shape. The main thing is that the ceiling is not pretentious. Simplicity is the motto for an eco-style ceiling.

Walls. Wall decoration is also a very important point, no less important than the choice of furniture or other decorative elements and accessories. There are a lot of options, for example, one of the walls opposite the bed can be lined with stone facing tiles “like a brick” or even with brick itself, then you can paint this wall with an aging effect, patination.

If we are talking about a fairly large space in a country house, then you can even install a fireplace in a wall lined with stone tiles. Is it still difficult for you to imagine what it will look like? Don't hesitate - great and appropriate!

Another design option for the walls of your bedroom is to decorate the walls with drawings of trees in combination with hanging shelves in the form of branches. Or even placing a tree cut from drywall on the wall. And finally, paper wallpaper with images of trees or other plants will make your bedroom very beautiful and add a little more nature to your interior.

Pay attention to textiles

This is especially important in the bedroom, because in addition to curtains and fabric chairs, there is a bed with linens. And it must be made from natural high-quality fabrics: cotton, linen, silk and others. It is better not to use synthetic underwear; it will ruin the eco-style - if not by its appearance, then at the first tactile contact. Natural fabrics are much softer and more pleasant to the touch. You can lay a natural rug on the floor.

Five reasons to choose eco-style for your bedroom interior

It may turn out that there are not five reasons, but many more, but for myself personally, I noted the following advantages:

  1. Natural materials . Wooden furniture and beds are good for sleep and health.
  2. Durability . Products made from wood last a long time and are reliable.
  3. Beauty. Eco-friendly interior details look natural and elegant in the setting. What could be more beautiful than something created by nature and modified by a skilled craftsman?
  4. Microclimate in the bedroom. Ecologically clean interior items help create a favorable environment in your home.
  5. Contribution to the protection of nature. When producing eco-furniture, fewer harmful emissions are released into the environment. Household items made from natural raw materials can be recycled relatively harmlessly, unlike plastic.

Decorate with natural decor

Paintings or photo wallpapers with landscapes and natural scenes, decorations in the form of various flora and fauna, wicker decor made of rattan or wicker - these are the main decorative elements for eco-style in the bedroom. Materials for decorations should also be natural, and the decorations themselves should not be very colorful, so as not to disturb the overall harmony of the natural interior.

Basics of eco-design

This is a modern style used for interior decoration. It involves the use of the most natural materials, as well as paints that are most characteristic of nature. It is recommended to use elements made from:

  • wood - any variety can be used, it is desirable that the colors match the interior as a whole;
  • stone - this type of finish is less common than wood, but is also quite consistent with an eco-style bedroom;
  • Ceramics are the rarest and most expensive material.

Metal finishes, bamboo or, for example, wicker can also be used. The latter is most often used to create wicker furniture. It goes well with natural fabrics, which always look great in an eco-style bedroom.

It is necessary to take into account design features depending on the size of the room. For large rooms, several finishing options with different materials can be used. If the bedroom is small, for example, in an apartment, you need to select the decor as carefully as possible. Each element here must correspond to the original style.

Don't forget about living plants

Flowers and various plants are one of the main attributes of eco-style. They will make the atmosphere of the bedroom more comfortable and homely, adding natural bright accents to it. And if it is allowed to moderately use imitation stone or wood in decoration, then the vegetation must be alive.

Eco-style color scheme.

A distinctive feature of eco-style is the design and decor of the room, mainly in a soft, eye-pleasing pastel, sand palette interspersed with wood and cork elements. Natural shades, calm tones and halftones are preferred. Neutral colors, whites, greys, cool tones and warm shades of natural materials. One or more accents in wood tones have a special charm, namely details in light green or olive color will create an atmosphere of harmony and contentment. Accents can be made using fresh flowers, and you can also combine a plant composition in combination with an aquarium with live fish.

Hang sheer curtains

To let more natural light into the bedroom, hang transparent or translucent curtains on the windows, without thick curtains - this will benefit both the interior as a whole and the living plants in the room. In addition, such curtains will make the bedroom look light and airy, completely relieving tension after a working day.

Accessories

Plants are a very important decorative element. For example, bamboo in a decorative ceramic vase or a couple of flowerpots with gorgeous flowers.

Over time, it becomes fashionable to grow real plants on one of the walls of the room: a continuous carpet of greenery or single branches along the wall.

Ordinary frames with black and white photos or a single large-sized picture of a natural landscape in a narrow frame are characteristic of this style.

The minimum amount of decoration is exactly what is needed.

Now imagine this atmosphere in its entirety. A house outside the city, a huge room where large windows with light linen curtains on a narrow metal cornice catch your eye.

The bright colors of nature can be seen from the windows, which gradually flow into the room due to the plants present.

A huge low bed the color of coffee with carefully arranged pillows, covered with a blanket of heavenly shades in combination with curtains that are pulled apart on the sides.

The minimum amount of furniture, except for the bed, only two bedside tables in the shape of tree stumps and a cozy chair on short legs to match the color of the bed. Light beige walls that support the color accents of the ceiling.

Often small details contribute to creating a unique atmosphere. A couple of bookshelves, small pots of plants and framed photographs as keepsakes. And a nap rug rests casually on the light-colored floor.

This can be presented in both a large and a miniature room.

The colors of nature and ecological materials allow you to create an interior in which you can relax and gain strength for new ideas and endeavors.

Organize warm lighting

Artificial light also needs to be given a lot of attention. Let it be warm and slightly yellow, imitating the sun's rays. It is better to avoid cold lighting - it will muffle the natural shades of eco-style, making them faded and less natural.

By the way, you can also make decor out of lamps by placing, for example, a floor lamp in the shape of a teardrop or a tree next to the bed.

What does eco-style not tolerate?

The main rule of eco style is: the finish should be as natural as possible. Therefore, when creating such interiors, you cannot use plastic, metal products with chrome coatings, or structures made of chipboard.

There is no place in such rooms for glossy textures, which are more suitable for an urban setting and loft and modern styles.

Avoid cold lighting completely - the light must be warm.
