Sleeping place in the kitchen - a review of the best ideas. Instructions for organizing and arranging a sleeping area in the kitchen (130 photos)

Where to place the bed

When arranging a sleeping area in the kitchen, you need to take into account its size, window location and architectural features. Often the sleeping area in the kitchen is made folding to save space. You can place it opposite the kitchen unit (this is the most common option), along a free wall or near a window.

A folding sofa or couch located under a window in a niche in the wall looks especially beautiful. If you have two free walls at once, you can safely install a corner sofa.

What types are there?

A small sofa with space for sleeping can be created in different shapes and sizes. The most popular types of such furniture, which are relevant specifically for small kitchens, are:

  • angular;
  • sofa couch;
  • semicircular;
  • modular.

Straight Corner

Angular

Corner models of a small sofa for the kitchen with a practical sleeping area are ideal for placement in a small room. This design allows rational use of the limited area of the room without compromising comfort, turning an ordinary kitchen into a cozy room for eating and sleeping. It is installed in a free corner, thereby providing the home owners with a spacious dining area consisting of a sofa and a table and chairs attached to it in a small kitchen.

Such models are often equipped with spacious compartments for storing bed linen, various utensils and other accessories that are relevant here. This is convenient if you have nowhere to hang a lot of cabinets and shelves in a tiny kitchen.

The standard parameters of a kitchen corner sofa vary from 110 cm to 175 cm by 200 cm, but you can choose other options. The backs of such models can have different shapes. For a tiny kitchen, you should choose a flat back that is fixed to the wall. For a spacious room, you should choose a high sofa with a comfortable back and armrests. The photo below shows a corner sofa for the kitchen: such furniture looks luxurious and expensive.

Sofa couch

A small-sized sofa in the couch modification is often selected for a small room, for example, a kitchen. A compact sofa couch will not take up much space, but will be highly functional. It is very comfortable to dine while sitting on such a sofa. Its assembled structural elements do not interfere with the legs of a sitting person.

It is quite comfortable to sleep on such furniture at night, relax during the day or sit at the dining table. It does not look bulky, light, compact, thereby not overloading the space of a small room. But this design does not provide special drawers for storing accessories or any kitchen interior items.

Semicircular

Choosing a small sofa with a comfortable sleeping area for the kitchen is not easy. Many people want to find models of such furniture that would combine a high level of comfort, practicality and original design. If, when choosing a sofa with a sleeping bed for the kitchen, you are guided solely by such factors as the beauty and originality of the design, you may soon regret your choice.

An excellent option from this point of view is the semicircular shape of a corner sofa for kitchens. This is a truly original-looking design that fits well into the kitchen interior, has a high level of practicality if the upholstery of the model is chosen wisely, and is also very comfortable to use.

Modular

If you want to give your kitchen space the maximum level of comfort, be sure to think about purchasing a small sofa. In the kitchen, such modular furniture, as practice shows, is very easy to use, highly comfortable and practical.

The entire structure is assembled from separate modules, which are movable and can be arranged at the discretion of its owner into a sofa of various shapes and configurations. So, if necessary, parts of the sofa can be used as an ottoman to accommodate a person at the dining table. And if the pouf is in the way, it can be pushed under the table or rolled out to another room. And if necessary, you can quickly organize an additional sleeping place in the kitchen.

Which design to choose

There are many solutions for small spaces and the kitchen is no exception. You can choose between various modifications of sofas, couches, folding beds and even folding models.

Sofas can open like an accordion, slide out using the “dolphin” system or open like a book, some of them can recline and slide out. We will tell you more about each of the popular models below.

Posting rules

The issue of placing furniture in a small kitchen must be approached with all responsibility in order to provide the space with the maximum level of comfort and functionality.

Kitchen featuresTips for placing a sofa
Tiny sizesMini models for a tiny kitchen are best installed in a corner near a window opening or against a wall located opposite the window.
Enlarged by connecting to a balcony or living roomIf the kitchen has enough free space, then the sofa can be used as the main zoning tool. With its help, you can divide the enlarged space into zones, separating the dining area from the relaxation area.
Rectangular in shapeThe sofa is installed opposite the kitchen unit. This is a standard technique, but it is most relevant for a room of this shape.
Irregular in shapeThe sofa is separated from the dining area and placed under the wall, and the table and chairs are installed in the center of the kitchen.

Folding straight sofa

The first option that comes to mind when we talk about a folding bed in the kitchen is a regular straight sofa. A straight sofa with a folding mechanism can be installed in kitchens that have a medium or large area. Depending on it, the sofa can be long, accommodating three people sitting at once, or a “Baby” format, accommodating one sleeper or two at once, it all depends on the availability of free space in the kitchen.

Criteria for choosing a kitchen corner

When choosing a kitchen corner, consider a number of nuances:

  1. Before buying a sofa, be sure to measure the space where it will stand. The length of furniture with a sleeping place must be at least 180 cm. It is important to maintain a passage of at least 70 cm between the sofa and other furniture.
  2. Simple, no-frills sofas are suitable for small kitchens. Fancy forms are best left for spacious rooms.
  3. The type of mechanism is chosen depending on how often people will sleep in the kitchen. An expensive but convenient “dolphin” is suitable for regular use. For rare applications, you should pay attention to budget modular and French systems.
  4. Workmanship. When purchasing, check the ease of transformation of the structure into a sleeping place and back, carefully inspect the corners, and check the integrity of the frame. If there are wooden parts that are not hidden under the upholstery, they should not be chipped or uneven.
  5. The smell of new furniture should not be pungent. If it is felt too strongly, such a sofa will release substances harmful to health.

When purchasing furniture with a sleeping area, special attention is paid to the choice of tabletop. It should be mobile so that there are no problems when unfolding the sofa.

Depending on the interior style

The sofa should be combined with the style of the kitchen interior. The list provides tips on choosing furniture for the most popular designs:

  1. Scandinavian style. Light designs of laconic forms are used. Sofas whose backs replace ordinary pillows look good. The upholstery material is plain, similar to natural. A plaid with an unusual pattern will become a bright accent.
  2. Country styles and Provence. Retro furniture with voluminous armrests and a comfortable seat is suitable. The upholstery material is in a delicate pastel color (lilac, pink, beige, etc.). Plant and floral prints are welcome.
  3. Classic. Soft sofas with deep seats and rounded armrests and upholstery made of jacquard, leather or leatherette will look good. In classic interiors, striped, floral prints and ornate patterns are appropriate.
  4. High tech. Upholstered furniture made of bright leatherette will fit best into ultra-modern interiors. For small kitchens, choose white options.
  5. Modern. Block structures are suitable. For upholstery choose milky, gray, beige shades without patterns.
  6. Minimalism. A small light-colored sofa will look most harmonious. Preference is given to simple forms, lack of prints and patterns.

Some useful tips for choosing and placing a sofa

To make the sofa look organic, practical and not clutter up the space, it is recommended to take into account several nuances:

  1. In a small kitchen, use light shades. Snow-white furniture is too easily soiled. Designers recommend paying attention to more practical colors, for example, beige, light gray, dusty pink, etc.
  2. Zoning the space by placing a sofa in the center of a small kitchen with its back to the kitchen unit is not recommended. This will make the interior cramped and uncomfortable. In this case, it is installed only against the wall.
  3. It is better to choose furniture with removable covers that are easy to wash in a machine.
  4. The wall behind the sofa in a color that differs from the rest of the kitchen color scheme will help zone the space without weighing it down.

Daybed or sofa

If there is little space in the kitchen, you can choose a sofa with a kitchen sleeper without armrests or even with a hard back. A sofa or daybed will save kitchen space. Hard parts will accumulate less soot and kitchen odors.

If the couch doesn't seem cozy enough for you, you can always put a few colorful pillows or bolsters on it.

Models of kitchen sofas with sleeper

There are a huge number of variations of kitchen sofas with sleepers for small kitchens on the market. They differ in design, mechanisms and equipment.

Note! When choosing a sofa for your kitchen, study all the varieties in advance. This will allow you to purchase the most convenient and stylish option.

Forms

Kitchen sofas come in various shapes. They look completely different in the interior of small rooms:

  1. Straight. This is the most popular option. It fits perfectly into a small room and looks stylish.
  2. Angular. Such options are also called kitchen corners. They are adjacent to two adjacent walls. Allows you to accommodate a large number of people.
  3. Fantasy forms. These include round, C-shaped and curved sofas. They are expensive and are rare, especially with a sleeping place. They should be used with caution in small kitchens.
  4. Without backrest . This option looks stylish and modern. It clutters up the space less than classic options. The backrest can be successfully replaced with small pillows.

Upholstery and frame materials

When choosing a folding sofa for the kitchen, it is very important to pay attention to the upholstery material. Not only how the furniture will look in the interior, but also its durability and practicality depends on it:

  1. Leather. The most expensive, durable and practical material. Easy to clean, resistant to grease, temperature changes and humidity. It looks stylish and noble. Fits into industrial and classic styles.
  2. Leatherette. Budget analogue of leather. It is made from synthetic materials and looks no less noble. High-quality options are more expensive, have a long service life, and are easy to maintain. Low-quality leatherette cracks and quickly loses its attractive appearance.
  3. Jacquard. Thick fabric made from synthetic materials. Easy to clean, not afraid of chemicals, and does not fade when washed. Dense, so it wears out slowly.
  4. Flock. Soft fabric resembling plush or velvet. It becomes electrified and attracts dust and odors. Wears out quickly.
  5. Microfiber. It has a Teflon coating that does not attract dust and dirt. It is wear resistant. Does not fade with frequent washing.
  6. Linen. Thick fabric that looks great in eco-interiors. With frequent washing, it loses its attractive appearance. If washed at the wrong temperature, the covers will shrink.

Folding sofas are made from:

  1. Tree. A durable and expensive material that, thanks to treatment with special means, is not afraid of moisture and temperature changes.
  2. Metal. Usually these are welded frames. Less common are products with a forged part that is not hidden under the upholstery. These sofas are strong and durable.
  3. Chipboard and MDF . The cheapest options. Their service life is shorter than the previous two. They delaminate due to high humidity and are less resistant to physical impact. Chipboard is cheaper than MDF, but emits substances harmful to health.

Options for transforming into a sleeping place

Sofas for a small kitchen also differ in the type of folding design. Their convenience and appearance depend on this parameter:

  1. Modular. The set includes several poufs. If necessary, such elements are simply moved closer to the sofa. They often have special fastenings. The advantage of this option is practicality, mobility and compactness. The disadvantage is that they are uncomfortable to sleep on.
  2. Dolphin. A soft block pulls out from the sofa, which turns it into a comfortable bed. Due to the fact that the design has only one connection point, it is comfortable to sleep on. This option is durable, ideal for small kitchens and is highly durable. The disadvantage is the high cost.
  3. French system. In this case, the design consists of three parts, stacked in a sofa. To unfold it, just pull the straps. It is not very comfortable to sleep on such a bed. As a temporary sleeping place, this is a good durable option. The French system is cheaper than the “dolphin” mechanism.

Equipment

A kitchen sofa is also convenient because, in addition to a sleeping place, it often performs a number of other functions. How practical the product will be depends on its configuration:

  1. Storage space. Typically, drawers are located in the seat or lower sliding part of the structure. Sometimes there are niches in the armrests.
  2. Pillows. Some kitchen sofas come with cushions. If the furniture model does not require a back, they are placed under the back. Cushions are also used for their intended purpose - when transforming a sofa into a sleeping place. This element also performs a decorative function.
  3. Poufs. Often included with modular sofas. When there is no need for a sleeping place, they play the role of chairs.
  4. Built-in countertops. Presented in the form of hard sections on the armrests or a table on the back of the sofa. Another popular option is a part of the seat (often it also serves as a niche cover), which rises and turns into a tabletop. On one side it is decorated with soft upholstery, on the other - wood or MDF.

Modular options

A sofa with a sleeping place for the kitchen does not have to be solid. In furniture centers you can find very original modular systems. They are a set of several small armchairs and poufs with pillows, which can be seats, backs or sofa cushions at the request of the owners.

During the day, they can be freely placed in different places in different parts of your home, and if necessary, they can be put together and get a full-fledged sleeping place in a small kitchen.

Features for a small kitchen

In a small kitchen it is recommended to place a corner sofa. This design makes efficient use of useful space and is perfect for sleeping or dining comfortably with your family. For a small room, practical modular furniture, folding, folding and roll-out models are suitable.

The photo shows a sleeping place in the interior of a small Scandinavian-style kitchen.

A sleeping area in a small kitchen should not have a design that is too bright and stands out from the overall design. It is better if it combines or merges with the surrounding space and forms a monolithic and holistic composition.

The photo shows a small-sized studio kitchen with a folding bed.

Folding beds

Do you remember how, as a child, at the dacha or at your grandmother’s, you could get an iron structure with a stretched fabric sheet, put a mattress on it and voila, the bed is ready? The times of Soviet folding phones have long since sunk into oblivion, but the concept itself has not been canceled.

Furniture manufacturers, and especially famous Swedes, offer many options for modern folding beds. They can transform into anything, “move out” from under a table or cabinet.

It is better to order such transformers together with a new furniture set. Then it will be more likely that the parts of the furniture set will fit together.

Upholstery material

Most often, the following types of materials are used for upholstery of such models:

  • eco leather;
  • Genuine Leather;
  • materials with anti-claw effect.

A kitchen sofa with a sleeper, first of all, should be practical and undemanding to maintain, because in the kitchen there are many aggressive factors that negatively affect the quality of the upholstery itself and the entire design of upholstered furniture.

No matter how beautiful the sofa is, odors from cooking, high levels of humidity, and oil splashes will deteriorate its appearance over time. This can be prevented with regular care. But options such as velor or velvet are almost impossible to keep in perfect condition in the kitchen.

Choose more practical and easy-to-use options. Based on the cost of the upholstery, eco-leather successfully combines an affordable price and high performance parameters. It has the ability to pass air through microscopic pores, so it is comfortable to use in hot summers. It is no less convenient to use an eco-leather sofa for the kitchen in winter, since the material has low thermal conductivity. Caring for such upholstery is reduced to wiping off dust with damp textiles, and greasy stains can be easily removed with a soapy solution of warm water. The disadvantage of eco-leather is the risk of damaging the upholstery with a sharp object. It is impossible to eliminate such a defect subsequently.

Genuine leather is a more expensive, natural material that is highly practical, wear-resistant, and durable. However, in hot weather, sitting on natural leather can be uncomfortable. And in winter, natural material tends to harden. But the resistance to mechanical damage of such upholstery is very high.

Innovative materials that have increased resistance to stains and have the ability to push out spilled moisture, grease, and dirt are especially popular. You can also purchase upholstery with an anti-claw effect if your cat likes to be in the kitchen.

But a small folding sofa upholstered in velor and velvet is hardly relevant for the kitchen. Even if you make every effort to clean such upholstery, it still tends to absorb odors, which is a very significant drawback for a sleeping place. Avoid such options to avoid discomfort during sleep.

Folding furniture

In fairly large kitchens, folding systems are suitable. For example, a sofa standing against a wall can be lowered with its back up, and the back will serve as a dining table. Using the same principle, a narrow full-sized bed can be folded out of a wall panel.

Engineers have already come up with many similar folding systems for bedrooms and living rooms, so why not integrate them into the kitchen space?

Interiors of small apartments

The owner’s task when planning the interior of a small kitchen is to preserve maximum free space so that it does not seem cluttered. If the room serves as a living room, bedroom and dining room, this is not easy to do. Indeed, in this case the room will have to be equipped with additional furniture.

To make the interior of such a room not cluttered, but stylish and interesting, you will have to use your imagination. We offer some tips:

  1. Light shades . The kitchen is decorated in pastel light colors, which visually expand the space. Furniture that matches the color of the walls looks best.
  2. Style is in the details. To dilute the monochrome of the interior, bright details are used: colored chairs (no more than 3) of unusual shape, bright textiles, interesting decorative elements, paintings.
  3. Wise selection of furniture. This applies not only to the kitchen set, but also to the sofa, dining table and even appliances. For small kitchens, compact size options are sold. This does not make them lose their capacity.
  4. Simple forms . The simpler the shape of the furniture, the more spacious the room looks.
  5. Good hood. This applies to all kitchens combined with the living room. In this case, the smells of cooking food will not be so pronounced, and the furniture will not become dirty so quickly.

Studio apartment solutions

Still, an ordinary apartment with walls between rooms has a significant advantage: a guest or an already grown child can always be isolated during sleep, just close the doors to the kitchen or bedroom.

Things are a little different in studio apartments. Since the division into zones is only indicated here, guests or children will have to be placed right next to you, even if you have a couple of sofas, the personal space of guests and owners will be violated.

Interior designers have come up with a solution for such homes. They suggest placing the master's bed literally under the ceiling. Studio apartments in new buildings are increasingly being built with higher ceilings than ordinary apartments.

Yes, even if you have converted an ordinary home into a studio, you can always place a full bed at a distance of 150 cm from the ceiling. The main thing is that the occupant of this bed finds it comfortable to sit on it and does not hit his head on the ceiling when getting out of bed.

Under the sleeping area, which is placed on special wooden platforms, there may be a workplace (table, computer and bookshelves) or a play area for children with a TV. You can separate the bed with curtains or rare wooden slats. Children especially like such “shelters”.

Selection rules

Modern kitchen sofas for a small kitchen can have all sorts of modifications, sizes, colors, textures, and are made using different transformation mechanisms and innovative technologies. How not to get confused when choosing such furniture? Just follow simple recommendations from experts that will help you make the right choice:

  • If you have chosen a dolphin model, its design must certainly include closer springs. If you are attracted by a Eurobook, then it is better to choose a model with profiles rather than on casters. Accordion models for a small room should be abandoned, as they will require a lot of free space when unfolded;
  • If you like sofas with a large drawer under the seat, which is very important for a small kitchen, choose models with a side lifting mechanism. Then it will be convenient to open the drawer, the dining table will not interfere with the process;
  • for such a small room as a kitchen, you should give preference to light colors and uniform upholstery, natural shades of the wooden parts of the sofa. This will visually make the structure light and compact, and the room itself will not be overloaded with unnecessary details.

Advantages and disadvantages of a bed in the kitchen

A sleeping place located in the kitchen has several undeniable advantages:

  • a small kitchen with a sleeping area expands the living space of the apartment;
  • allows you to accommodate guests or move out a child;
  • gives the kitchen additional coziness;
  • transforms the kitchen from a dining area into a dining room or second living room.

When deciding whether to install an additional sofa in the kitchen, you need to remember that this decision will also have obvious disadvantages:

  • a sofa in the kitchen with a sleeping place will have to be upholstered with a more expensive protective material (often it is natural or artificial leather, it is easier to clean);
  • a sofa with any upholstery will absorb kitchen odors;
  • the sofa will have to be cleaned more often than furniture in other rooms (during cooking, some fat and soot will definitely settle on them);
  • if the kitchen is very small, you will have to sacrifice this meager space for the sake of sleeping space.

Zones and their location

The most popular ideas are usually called:

  • The presence of a partition in the room. This is a structure made of plasterboard or a “false” wall, which is most often supplemented with one or more niches, shelves, and lighting. Glass models are quite remarkable in their appearance. Visually, the room looks absolutely uncluttered, and also allows light from the street to pass through well. A more secluded atmosphere can be created using frosted glass, as well as surfaces with a simple pattern;
  • Even the narrowest niche can be adapted for a sleeping place. You just need to organize the space correctly and additionally equip the recess with shelves and drawers. There will then be enough usable space in the kitchen. This alcove is well suited for an adult or child;
  • The high ceiling allows you to build a podium, which will be equipped with a built-in bed or drawers. Such a clear division of zones will not require other elements of separation;

By installing a sofa, armchair or other pieces of furniture in a certain way, it will also make it possible to delimit zones of space as simply as possible.

Zoning principles

If you are arranging a kitchen not in a “Khrushchev” and its area is at least a little larger, you can apply the principles of zoning and dividing space in the kitchen. For those rooms in which a folding chair, sofa or couch is separate from the dining table, you can visually separate these two parts of the room using color schemes and different materials in the design.

For example, you can place a folded bed separately near the window, hang elegant curtains on the window, and put several bright pillows on the chair. Cozy decor and the presence of daylight from the window will make such a place suitable for reading.

If the sofa is located against a free wall, you can highlight it with color, place a soft rug on the floor near it, and a minimalist floor lamp or sconce will help complement the composition. Add a small table there and this place will attract those who like to sip coffee after the main meal at the table.

If it is expected that one of the family members will constantly rest on the sleeping place in the kitchen, it would not be unreasonable to decide to screw special curtain rails to the ceiling. At night it will be possible to close the sleeping area from household members who come to the kitchen to drink water.

How to make kitchen zoning?

A few of the most popular ideas.

Dividing a room with a partition

You can divide a room using a false wall or a plasterboard partition. Designs are often equipped with built-in niches, shelves and even lighting.

The glass model has a very beautiful appearance. It does not visually overload the room and perfectly transmits light to areas distant from the window. To create a more private environment, a product with frosted glass or a surface decorated with unobtrusive patterns is suitable.

With sliding doors

When closed, sliding doors completely separate and isolate the space, and when open, they unite it and give additional space.

The photo shows matte sliding doors in the interior of a modern kitchen with a sleeping area.

Sleeping place in a niche

The sleeping bed can fit seamlessly into even the narrowest niche. If you properly organize the space and equip the recess with drawers and shelves, you can free up a lot of usable space in the kitchen.

In addition, the alcove with bed provides a wonderful independent and private space for both an adult and a child. If you are planning a children's bedroom in the same room as the kitchen, install a cradle or a transforming sofa, depending on the age of the child.

Podium

In a kitchen with a sufficient ceiling height, a podium will be an excellent zoning solution. The elevation is equipped with a built-in roll-out bed or drawers.

Thanks to the different floor levels, it is possible to clearly delimit the room without overloading it with partitions, false walls, etc.

The photo shows a studio kitchen with a sleeping area located on the podium.

Zoning the kitchen-bedroom furniture

To separate the work area from the sleeping area, install a bar counter or turn the sofa with its back towards the kitchen. If there is very little space in the room, a folding table is suitable, which can be removed at any time.

The most common space delimiters are a cabinet or rack. The designs are decorated in contrasting colors, kept in the general interior style and decorated with indoor flowers, photographs, books, figurines and other accessories.

The photo shows a sleeping area separated from the kitchen by a compact bar counter.

Thanks to the kitchen island, you can not only divide the space, but also give it additional comfort, since this module is an important part of the set.

Screen or curtains

Textile zoning elements are considered no less popular. Fabric partitions perfectly separate the sleeping area from the kitchen and provide an atmosphere for complete rest.

A convenient option for a small kitchen-bedroom would be a mobile, transportable screen. Such designs are distinguished by a huge number of models that fit into any design.

Visual zoning

To draw the border between two zones, different finishing materials are used. For example, in the sleeping area the floor can be laid with laminate, the walls can be decorated with wallpaper, and in the kitchen you can use floor tiles and waterproof wall painting.

Also, contrasting color highlighting of one of the functional areas is suitable as zoning. However, you should not choose too rich a color scheme, as the room should have a holistic and harmonious appearance.

A variety of lighting allows you to give the environment a certain mood, as well as highlight or darken individual areas in the room.

The photo shows a kitchen with a sleeping area with different wall and floor finishes.

Folding and sliding tables

The second largest participant in the interior after the sofa is usually the dining table. When choosing upholstered furniture for the kitchen, you need to take into account its dimensions too.

Fortunately, engineers have already come up with several solutions for dining problems. The table does not have to be classic; it can lean away from the wall or the back of the sofa, move out from under cabinets, or unfold in any other way.

If meals mostly take place in the living room or if only one or two people live in the apartment, a rotating bar counter would be an excellent solution. This narrow tabletop can be attached to a base pipe and rotated around it. So it can serve its main purpose or turn into a small dining table for two.

Near such a counter you can place a folding bed, which the dimensions of your kitchen allow. This interior solution is perfect for very tiny kitchens, such as are usually found in houses that were built during the reign of Khrushchev. It will also appeal to young and active careerists who do not like to cook a lot and set tables with five courses.

What should a kitchen be like?

To increase the number of storage systems in the interior of the kitchen-bedroom, it is better to place the set up to the ceiling. A linear or corner kitchen has a compact layout. The most preferable for this design are built-in or mini household appliances in the form of a narrow sink, dishwasher, refrigerator or two-burner stove.

You can give your kitchen a less bulky look by using furniture fronts made to match the walls. It is better to install a glossy set with doors without handles or other decor.

The photo shows the design of a kitchen-bedroom with a light corner set up to the ceiling.

To save space, you can convert the window sill into a dining table, bar counter, or make it a continuation of the tabletop set.

How to choose furniture

When choosing furniture for the kitchen, especially upholstered furniture, you need to ensure that it meets several important requirements.

  • Wooden parts must be treated with an impregnation that protects the material from moisture;
  • It is better if the sofa upholstery is lint-free (this way it will get dirty less and absorb odors and fumes);
  • The sofa should be easy to clean, ideally if it is covered with removable covers that can be washed;
  • The sofa should be easy to fold and unfold (especially if it is supposed to be used daily for sleeping).

If the sofa meets these criteria, it will last you a long time.

Considering the cost of living space in our time, not all residents of our country can afford to buy or rent a large apartment. Installing an extra bed in the kitchen helps in this matter. By placing a folding sofa or chair in the kitchen, you will not only provide your household with their own sleeping place, but will also make the interior of your home more fresh, original and cozy.

Correct selection of furniture

Small, narrow rooms often require custom-made furniture, since all household items must be both compact and functional.

For example, a light-colored cabinet from the floor to the ceiling can accommodate most items on its shelves.

There are simple rules for choosing a headset:
  • The depth of the cabinet should be no more than forty centimeters;
  • The presence of a lifting or sliding door mechanism;
  • The table must be either sliding, or folding, or folding, or rolling out.

By replacing the upper cabinets with open shelves, you can create a relatively uncluttered space.

Various options

Depending on the size of the kitchen and style, you should choose furniture that will serve as a sleeping area. There are different options.

Chair-bed. A convenient option for a very small kitchen. During the day, this is a regular lounge chair where you can sit to read a book or drink a cup of coffee. And at night, if necessary, this piece of furniture can easily be converted into a sleeping place, and then just as quickly removed.

Bed. A full bed (for example, a single bed) can be located in the kitchen only if it has a very large area, and at the same time it is possible to divide the room into zones. Then the relaxation corner may well be located behind an original screen, a rack with flowers, or a beautifully decorated arch.

Sofa bed. An excellent option for both a spacious kitchen and a small room. During the day, this is a cozy place where hosts and guests can be accommodated during feasts. In the evening, the sofa can be disassembled, making a wonderful sleeping place for two people. It is also easy to choose the design of the sofa that will fit well into a particular kitchen.

Ottoman or sofa. Also a winning option. And it looks very original with the right style of room decoration. Most likely, this piece of furniture is suitable for more spacious rooms, where you can fence off an area for relaxation and tea drinking.

Banquette or couch. This is a very suitable type of furniture as a seat for accommodating guests. It takes up little space, but you can choose a stylish option that will fit well into the interior. By placing a mattress on the bench, you can spend the night comfortably and get a good night's sleep.

Transformable bed. A very comfortable type of bed and ideally suited for small spaces. You can use the services of specialists, or you can attach the structure yourself. The essence of this bed is that it is attached to the wall like a shelf in a train compartment. During the day, it can be placed against the wall and not attract attention at all, especially if it is combined with other decorations. And at night the bed folds out to create a very comfortable place.

Cot. If the kitchen is too small and a sleeping place is absolutely necessary, you can resort to the simplest method - using a folding bed. This item can always be folded and stored in a pantry or closet; when folded, it takes up very little space. There are many options for sleeping accommodations. But you need to consider the pros and cons of each. If, for example, a sleeping area is required from time to time, then a banquette, a couch, or a chair-bed are quite suitable.

Sofas and beds are, first of all, about convenience. But the downside is that they take up a lot of space. And they can only be placed in large rooms. If one of the family members plans to spend the night in the kitchen all the time, then you cannot do without a bed or sofa.

Care and operating rules for a small sleeping place

When purchasing a soft couch, it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of the materials from which the product is made.
You also need to know about the rules of care and use. In the kitchen, the product is often subject to contamination, therefore, depending on the material, it is necessary to carry out the following standard cleaning procedures:

  • vacuuming
    (for fabric upholstery);
  • cleaning with a damp cloth
    (for leather and other hard upholstery);
  • cleaning
    with soapy water and a brush.

To extend service life

product, you must remember the following rules:

  • the top layer of dust is removed with a vacuum cleaner with a soft attachment at low speed;
  • wet cleaning
    is carried out when visible stains appear;
