The Venetian style in the interior appeared in the 14th century. with the advent of the heyday of culture and painting. During this time, famous artists experimented with different colors, new lines and shapes.

Advanced technologies were created and immediately introduced into house designs.

The special grace and uniqueness of the era quickly acquired certain features that distinguish the Venetian style, making it recognizable:

  • The main thing is the color of each interior, a complex combination of shades and lighting effects. Colors occupy a special place: rich purple, bright blue, emerald and beige.
  • There is an abundance of elements with gilding and silver, which emphasizes the splendor and presentability of the decoration.
  • All the details are extravagantly luxurious.
  • The floor is decorated with marble or ceramic tiles.
  • Large mirrors in gilded frames made of expensive wood.

The walls were decorated with silk-screened wallpaper, Venetian plaster and beautiful paintings in the style of Baroque palaces.

Unique decor made of gold leaf, unusually shaped twisted columns to support vaults, headboards of large beds with openwork carvings. The floor was decorated with huge carpets by Italian masters.

Furnishings

Choosing Venetian style furniture calls for bulky wooden pieces, but elegantly decorated with luxurious upholstery in velvet, silk or tapestry.

Murano glass and stained glass are a must for style.

Large cabinets for storing books and manuscripts, where valuable collections of rarities are collected.

Venice is an ancient city of trade, where sailors and numerous tourists came, so placing maps and a globe in a library is more appropriate.

You need beautiful massive lamps, rare figurines, masks for carnivals, which were very popular in Venice. It is better to place them on a marble tabletop in a Venetian-style room.

All the furniture takes up a large volume and is massive, so to create an exquisite corner of sunny Italy you need a lot of space and considerable funds.

Signs of style

Let us present for our readers the main features of the Venetian style. If you manage to bring them into the design of your apartment, then you can safely say that it is furnished in the Venetian style. And none of your guests will doubt this; everyone will be delighted that you managed to turn a small apartment into a small Venetian palace, instilling a spirit of adventurism and romance in the house.

  1. The presence of domed vaults, arched arches, columns, semicircular niches. All these elements can be false, for example, instead of columns you can make only decorative bulges, and an arch can be depicted above the door using stucco.
  2. Symmetry. It is advisable to make all lines and decorative elements repeating and position them symmetrically. If there is one column, there must be a second one. If there is a window to the left of the fireplace, it is desirable that there is one to the right of it.
  3. Rich color range. You can use light pastel shades as a basis: white, cream, ivory, pink marble, beige. However, deeper colors are also required. Dark blue, emerald, deep blue-green, purple, red-brown will be more than appropriate. The roll call of gold and blue is typical. “Aerobatics” is a skillful combination of colors, when some shades shimmer into others, as if the rays of the sun are playing.
  4. Gold or silver should be present everywhere, and preference in the Venetian style is given to gold.
  5. A Venetian-style interior is unthinkable without a huge amount of mirrors and glass. For not too large rooms, this is even good, since such decor helps to visually expand the room. Crystal lamps, glass doors on furniture, Murano glass figures will fit perfectly into the interior. Looking at the photo, you will probably agree with this.
  6. Bright stained glass windows, paintings by the great masters of the Renaissance (or their skillful copies) are important signs of the Venetian style in the interior. In a modern apartment, they can be replaced with paintings with views of Venice, gondolas floating along canals, and carnival scenes. It would be a good idea to hang a photo wallpaper depicting Venetian canals on one of the walls. This will not only emphasize the style, but also visually expand the walls, as if letting in a piece of noisy Venetian life.
  7. When creating interiors in the Venetian spirit, decorative elements such as carnival masks are widely used today.
  8. Various figurines in antique style will not be superfluous.
  9. Curtains should be heavy, dark shades, preferably made of velvet.
  10. The furniture should be massive and solid. The Venetian style does not allow any thin elegant legs or similar elements. However, the variety of decorative elements allows you to make furnishings visually lighter and more elegant. You can verify this by looking at the photo.
  11. Marble is the favorite stone of artists who decorated homes for wealthy Venetian merchants during the birth of the Venetian style. It is also advisable to use it. In addition, today you can find artificial stone that is visually almost indistinguishable from natural stone.
  12. Tiles are ideal for the floor; they can be used to create geometric patterns. Let's say parquet. Rich carpets will not be out of place.
  13. Venetian plaster is ideal for wall decoration. It is durable and easy to clean, so it can even be used in the kitchen and bathroom. Silk-screen printing would be appropriate in the bedroom.

“My Kitchen”: Venice in a simple interior

REALTY.TUT.BY is hosting the “My Kitchen” competition. We continue to publish stories from readers about how they equipped their kitchens. Then, through voting, TUT.BY users will choose winners who will receive prizes from our partners.

Olga's story from Minsk:

— The renovation was done two years ago. Kitchen area - 8.2 m2. I thought about the design for a very long time. I've always loved the combination of black and white with metallic accents. It is laconic, stylish and modern.

We started with electrical work first. We laid a separate cable for sockets, as well as for the thermostat (warm floor).

The walls were leveled in places and filled with putty. All this was done by specialists.

For finishing we chose non-woven washable wallpaper made in Belgium. The main color is white. The wall near the dining area was covered with wallpaper with an unobtrusive print. My husband and I glued it ourselves.

A place of honor was taken by a picture that my grandmother embroidered and gave to me long before my marriage. It suited the interior perfectly.

We chose white Keramin tiles for the floor, with a heating cable laid underneath it.

The set is corner. We used skinali as an apron: one half of the kitchen was “Venice”, the second was to match the color and texture of the countertop.

The furniture was made to order. We opted for postforming, and a glossy one at that. He made the room brighter and larger. Another plus is that the facades are easy to maintain. For a family with children, this is important. Chrome handles. They decided not to clutter the wall above the photo with cabinets. A SHARP flat-screen TV was installed there (my husband bought it in Poland).

Venetian style: geometry, colors, materials

Venetian - like any other style - is a composition made up of different components. To better understand the anatomy of a style, you should break it down into parts and study each of them separately.

Geometry of space

The rectangle is the predominant figure in the Venetian interior. These are fireplaces, portals, high windows, coffered ceiling elements, mirrors, stucco panels. The apparent angularity is softened by roundings: arches, curls on furniture and decorative elements, round coffee tables, rounded picture frames. Despite the apparent contradiction, in the hands of an experienced interior designer these figures come to an overall balance, achieving visual synergy.

A completely Venetian interior can only be revealed in a large room with high ceilings, be it a spacious penthouse, a duplex apartment or a private palace.

Materials

Venetian interior style requires substantial financial investments. All the best and most expensive things are used here:

  • velvet for curtains;
  • hand-made panels for wall decoration;
  • marble and granite;
  • valuable wood species;
  • crystal and life-size mirrors;
  • oak parquet.

Metals are also present in small doses. Mainly brass and copper from which door handles and decorative furniture elements are made.

Colors

The real old Venetian style tends towards medieval gloom. It is full of heavy gold, sleepy blue, noble burgundy. Over time, light colors penetrated here too. Modern Venetian interior focuses on snow-white color, cream tones, ivory, emphasizing the volume of space and completely dissolving medieval gloom.

The beauty of style is that it can be different and this is achieved, first of all, by changing the pole of the color palette.

Design Features

This design is emphasized by grace and sophistication - the distinctive features of the style. In addition, the design of a room in the spirit of Venice is accompanied by features by which it is recognized:

  1. The multifaceted color palette of the design contains extravagant rich combinations. Beige, purple, emerald, dark blue shades are the hallmark of the style.
  2. Gold and silver in the design emphasize the luxury and high cost of the interior. Acceptable both in finishing and furnishing the room. Make sure everything is in moderation. Excessive use of even expensive materials in decoration can burden the interior, making it too pompous.
  3. The use of expensive furniture in the Venetian style, which is the focus. This gives the interior solidity.
  4. The flooring always looks chic and large, often it is marble tiles. You can also use other materials stylized as natural stone.
  5. The walls are decorated with special plaster - Venetian, without which the design style cannot be called by its similar name. For small rooms you can use silk-screened wallpaper. Wall painting in a la Baroque style looks impressive.
  6. Among the obligatory attributes of the Venetian style are volume and texture. This could be a handmade carpet spread on the floor with clearly embossed textural patterns, lush decoration for windows in the form of curtains, tulle and curtains, relief surfaces finished with Venetian plaster.
  7. It is impossible to imagine interior design in this style without the presence of a mirror in a baguette made of wood or plaster.
  8. You can’t do without decorative elements, including carvings, twisted columns, gold leaf, handmade carpets, and painted carnival masks.

Venetian wallpaper in the interior - photos of modern ideas for elegant design

Connoisseurs of sophistication, luxury and nobility have always preferred Venetian plaster in the design of their houses or apartments. This material practically replaces marble, and not only visually, but also in properties.

It is made from marble flour and malachite with a small amount of binding impurities. However, over time, such material became less available due to its high cost.

It is difficult for modern society to give up pleasant little things, so it has created a replacement for marble luxury, which is no worse than the original. Let's see what we're talking about...

Venetian wallpaper, unlike “liquid marble” or Venetian plaster, can be applied even by inexperienced wallpaperers. While their “brothers” behave compliantly only in the hands of professionals.

Wallpaper of this type is created using two methods: from vinyl based on non-woven fabric or paper and liquid-like. It is precisely these techniques that allow us to create an imitation “Venetian” in our rooms, conveying the high cost, texture and shimmer of the original.

Reasons to choose wallpaper with Venetian plaster:

  • the cost per square meter is several times less than plaster;
  • moisture-resistant coating, with which you don’t have to worry about the strength of the wallpaper;
  • the outer vinyl layer, which is also decorative, is resistant to direct rays and is completely resistant to fading;
  • absolutely wear-resistant wallpaper that does not accumulate dust and dirt;
  • a wide range of both color and texture.

How does “Venetian” compare to other wallpapers:

  • will last and not lose their appearance for 15-20 years of use, while paper ones last only 5-8 years;
  • Venetian wallpaper made on fiberglass will last more than 30 years, which is absolutely unrealistic for paper wallpaper;
  • they are moisture resistant, which means they will fit perfectly into the interior of a bathroom or kitchen;
  • the width of their roll is ½ meter, which allows you to glue them “completely without joints”; they will simply be invisible;
  • the variety of types of Venetian wallpaper helps to create interiors that are modern, non-standard and with a hint of antiquity.

These wallpapers are characterized by classic motifs that are indispensable for the perfect refreshment.

3) Liquid wallpaper “Venetian”. You can purchase them in a regular transparent bag in the color of the original wallpaper. Simple options consist of cellulose, cotton fibers and adhesive. The composition of more presentable ones can be supplemented with algae, silk, silver lurex and many others. other dry mixtures. Although this type is inferior to its two predecessors in terms of external indicators, it is still advantageous in the following: it is applied with a spatula completely seamlessly, due to the porosity of the surface of the soundproofing room, due to the presence of natural fibers in the composition - it works as an antistatic agent for dust.
