30 painting options for decorating a bathroom and toilet

Naturally, while taking a bath or shower, the humidity in the room increases slightly. However, we understand that this is a very short time. The rest of the time, the humidity in the bathroom is the same as in the living room, bedroom and other rooms. For canvas, such minor fluctuations in humidity over time with good ventilation are not dangerous.

With regard to graphics, watercolors and other works done on paper, moisture is still destructive. The presence of glass on top of the work will not help either. The slightest penetration of moisture onto the paper base leads to deformation of the sheet plane, the paper warps and loses its evenness. In addition, works framed under glass can theoretically be a source of danger. If the glass suddenly breaks (it was carelessly touched, the fasteners did not hold up, etc.), the glass shards on the bathroom floor are very dangerous. Remember also that working under glass is very difficult. This is important if you have small children and your entire home is designed to provide child-safe conditions.

Therefore: painting – yes, graphics – no.

Why is this necessary?

Many people, when furnishing their home or making cosmetic repairs, wonder how they can decorate their apartment and give it some special atmosphere.

A variety of interior details are used: furniture, curtains, carpets, pillows, blankets, lamps, photo frames with pictures dear to the heart, indoor plants and flowers, and, of course, paintings. And if everything is more or less clear with the interior of the living room or kitchen, then what about the bathroom?

Should I place paintings there, or just leave a beautiful mirror? And if you do hang pictures on the walls of the bathroom, what kind? Won't they look out of place? And how, in this case, can you choose a job that will not be spoiled by humidity - after all, it is very high in the bathroom?

Faced with all these questions, owners of a variety of bathrooms, from small and tiny to large and spacious, often decide not to hang pictures, so as not to have unnecessary problems. And in vain. You can now choose a painting for any room, even a bathroom or toilet.

You just need to find out a couple of tips, choose a suitable job and a place where the picture will hang. The rest is a matter of little things.

Bright wallpaper

The wall behind the cistern can be used as a space to create an interesting accent. Graphic patterns, tropical and floral prints are still in fashion. For the more daring, photo wallpapers with perspective and canvases in the pop art style are suitable.

How to choose a painting for the bathroom and toilet

If you are still wondering whether you can hang a picture in your bathroom, the answer is yes, you can. Modern housing with more or less spacious bathrooms does not have as high a percentage of humidity as you might think. But, unfortunately, not all of us live in modern houses; many have apartments in buildings of old times. But even in such apartments, where the bathtub and toilet are often combined, you can place a picture.

Since we do not take baths and showers around the clock, the high humidity there will not be constant. If your room has good ventilation, then paintings will not be scary to hang on the walls of the bathroom.

Separately, I would like to say about what material can be used. Paintings on canvas are more suitable for the bathroom than drawings on paper.

Firstly, the paper is transformed by water, the slightest drops and it already ripples, and the paint - streaks. In addition, if you hang a picture under glass, it may begin to fog up due to condensation. In addition, it is not safe, because glass is a very fragile material, and in a small space of a room it can break, and the fragments will be very difficult to remove.

Moisture-resistant acrylic is best. After all, as far as you know, this paint does not wash off with water when it dries. If you want a painting in an abstract style, then you can generally mix moisture-resistant acrylic paint with color and make something beautiful and moisture-resistant at the same time.

Another tip that should not be neglected is placement - the place where the painting will hang. Choose a wall or corner as far away from sources of moisture as possible - the shower, the bathtub itself, the sink. Thus, accidental splashes of water will not fall on the painting, and steam from the water will not go directly to the painting.

If your painting nevertheless suffered from humidity, for example, the canvas sagged, you can put it in another room for a while. The canvas will dry out from moisture and become level, and if not, you can always place wooden pegs in the corners of the stretcher that come with the canvas.

It is very important to choose a painting not only by the properties of the paint, but also by other design aspects. The painting must match the style of the bathroom, match the color scheme, and the frame is also included in this criterion. The painting in the bathroom should be like a continuation of the entire interior and be as appropriate as possible both in size and theme.

Remember also about lighting. Typically, bathrooms have warm, slightly dim lighting. But you can add additional lighting, for example, near a mirror, or above the painting itself.

Don’t forget about caring for your paintings. Wipe off dust or excess moisture in a timely manner after long water procedures. Also, if the painting is hanging in a wooden frame, coat the frame with varnish so that the structure of the wood is not damaged by moisture. Ventilate the bathroom after each bath or shower to help remove moisture as quickly as possible.

And, of course, remember that if your bathroom is undergoing renovation, or is simply very dirty and cosmetic changes are needed, for example, whitewash the ceiling, remove nets and dust from the ceiling, wash the walls and appliances, and make the bath itself snow-white, then hang a picture will not be appropriate.

After all, a beautiful painting will decorate the bathroom if the room is clean and tidy, and vice versa, create dissonance if the room is not 100% ready.

painting

The wall or utility cabinet above the toilet cistern can be decorated with hand painting. The piece will become the highlight of the interior, giving it exclusivity. For painting, you should use acrylic paint, and it is recommended to protect the finished product with varnish.

Paintings for a shared bath and toilet

As a rule, a bathroom combined with a toilet is a very small, small room. Now I don’t mean large, expensive apartments, where the bathrooms have windows to the street, but they are so spacious that you can even put a couch with a wardrobe. This refers to the simplest and most ordinary bathrooms in standard apartments - modern and from the period of the USSR and Perestroika.

Look how harmoniously the colors of the paintings combine with the color of the set and other details in the bathroom:

The color of the frame here contrasts with the color of the walls, and the paired paintings only complement each other. A good idea if you have little space and don’t want to overload the space with one large painting is to hang two paired works of a small format, for example, 30x40

The color scheme is a very important element in the design; everything must be combined so that there is no visual rejection. In these examples, color played its role perfectly

If the bathroom space is very small, give preference to horizontal paintings - this way, they will visually make the room taller

Hang a picture with paint in the bathroom. This could be a poster made of special material. Such moisture-proof paintings look good in the interior of a modern bathroom

And again, a double painting - an original print, printed on a special material and framed in a metal frame, just what you need for a room with high humidity

Paintings with a marine theme, like other attributes of the sea - shells, pebbles, corals, are very popular in the decoration of rooms. They look especially beautiful in combination with interesting patterns of glossy white or mother-of-pearl tiles

If you are close to tropical style and wicker furniture, choose paintings in green tones with images of plants. Again, these can be either posters or acrylic paintings

The most important criterion when choosing is that you like it. After all, we come to the bathroom to relax, unwind, get ready for bed or welcome a new day. Pictures should only carry a positive charge of energy

Shelves

By attaching shelves above the toilet, we get additional storage and decor space. You can put books, an air freshener and even plants (including fakes) on an open shelf. The main thing is not to overdo it and not to clutter the small room.

For more practical apartment owners, closed wall cabinets or baskets are suitable.

Image transfer methods ↑

Projector ↑

This is the most common way. But not everyone has a projector; it can only be used in semi-darkness or darkness. The bathroom space is too small, so your image may not reach the desired size.

Translating a picture with a projector

Scale grid ↑

This method is more suitable for our task. First, draw the desired picture with squares. Use a building level or a large ruler to mark the surface area. Draw the same grid here, being sure to respect the proportions. Redraw the image from each square of your picture with a pencil. Color the result.

The closer the details of the picture, the larger they should be. The more distant the composition, the smaller and paler the details.

What to do if you still could not transfer the image accurately enough? Try scanning it onto your computer or finding an image on the Internet. Then place it in any graphics editor, draw it into squares, enlarging each one to A4 size, and print it out. Don't forget to number the squares! Then transfer the picture according to the numbers using carbon paper. You can ask the sellers of a hardware store for the latter - there you can find it in very large sizes, or use a regular one from the office.

Drawing by yourself

Self-adhesive film ↑

This method is good for transferring small patterns or objects with a clear outline. But first, all this must be cut out on film with a plotter. Call the place where they use self-adhesive film, for example, advertisers. There, cutting a stencil will cost you from 200 to 1000 rubles. With this method, we do not need brushes, but a spray gun, an airbrush, or just a piece of foam rubber. We glue the stencil, blow it out or apply color with foam rubber and then remove the self-adhesive (very carefully). The stencil can be made in an interesting way. Find a picture, go to the photo editor. Then the following sequence: filter, sketch, photocopy, set the necessary parameters. you get an outline. You enlarge it using the ProPaster program, divide the image into squares and print it there. Cut out the black outline with a utility knife, leaving jumpers. Your stencil is ready!

IMPORTANT: Test your stencil on a different surface! Modern paint mixtures for bathrooms dry quickly; it will be difficult to correct the flaws of your unsuccessful art.

Drawing by stenciling

By hand ↑

Why not, if your hands grow as they should, and everything is fine with your eye. The easiest but most difficult way - if you're not sure, don't do it!

While working, many people are faced with the problem of how to draw without smudges. There's nothing complicated about it. When applying with a spray gun or spray can, it must be kept at a distance of 30 cm from the surface. When working with other tools, apply minimal paint.

Contrasting tiles

Often in the interior of a toilet, they try in every possible way to hide the side where the toilet is located, but if you decorate the wall above the cistern with contrasting tiles, the interior will only sparkle with new colors. If the walls are decorated in light colors, the room will look cleaner and visually larger.

Mirror

Reflecting light and space, the mirror cloth optically enlarges the room. You can install several mirrors or one whole behind the toilet.

The only negative is that caring for the reflective surface will require additional effort.

Backlight

LED strips along the perimeter of the wall behind the toilet provide enough light, look attractive, last a long time, and even save energy - a very practical solution for those who visit the toilet at night.

Unusual accessories

It’s a little strange to see something unusual in the toilet, besides the toilet and cistern. In an apartment or house where the entire interior is thought out in advance to the smallest detail, you can find figurines made from natural materials, sculptures, animal figurines, abstract works of art, etc. in the bathroom.

Moss wall

Stabilized moss attached to a wooden base will add freshness to the room and bring a touch of natural beauty to the interior. You can make a moss wall with your own hands. It will not require complicated maintenance and will last for several years.

Funny lettering

Those with a unique sense of humor will appreciate this idea. The phrase can be printed on paper, water-repellent canvas, or you can buy a ready-made metal sign. If the walls of the toilet are covered with slate paint, witty inscriptions can be changed at least every day.
