7 rules for storing things in the pantry that will keep it always clean and simplify cleaning

How to arrange a pantry with your own hands

There are many places in the apartment where you can place a storage room. Each niche has its own procedure for arranging such a storage section. Let's look at each option in more detail.

At the end of the corridor

Some apartments are designed so that the hallway leads to a corridor that ends in a dead end. Such free space can be safely equipped for storing things. To do this you will need drywall and a door. To build a storage room, it is necessary to install plasterboard walls, leaving space for installing a door. You can store not only outerwear, but also old things in such a room in the hallway.

Free space

Sometimes the room has already been allocated such fenced areas that are empty and are part of the corridor. They can be used and zoned for storing things. Typically, such spaces already have walls on all sides, so all that remains is to build one missing one or hang a curtain, if this solution does not deviate from the general concept. Below in the photo you can see how to arrange a storage room in an empty space in the hallway.

Closed shelves

In the layout of older apartments, closed shelves are installed above the doorways. They are built directly into the wall, so they do not take up much space. However, such storage space may not always provide a large capacity for things. You can store old boxes, household items, and pickles there. Unfortunately, such a storage room is not suitable for clothes.

Finishing the pantry

Such a room should not stand out from the general concept of the hallway and the entire apartment as a whole. That is why the storage room should be made in the same style. The main thing is to observe the color scheme and characteristic materials for the walls and floors. The following finishing options are available:

  • Plastic panels. They are easy to clean and hardly get dirty. The panels are installed quickly enough, and you can choose any design.
  • Wallpaper. Budget and common option. They are easy to glue, but get dirty in a short time. They are difficult to clean with a damp cloth, and sometimes even impossible. Therefore, when choosing wallpaper, you should pay attention to the possibility of cleaning it.
  • Plaster. Suitable only for those corridors and hallways that are already decorated in this style. You can use a rough material or paint it with decorative plaster in several layers.
  • Drywall. Used to build additional walls. If you choose high-quality material, you won’t even have to finish it with anything additional. Usually good chipboard panels are already decorated with the required design. They are easy to clean, do not deform and interact well with moisture.

Using different materials, as shown in the photo, you can easily zone the pantry to accommodate different things.

Tips for storing items in the pantry

The correct location of this room will not always guarantee functionality. It is important to know how to properly organize items and use your closet. To do this, you need to remember a few simple rules:

  • In the middle of the cabinets are stored those things that are most often used. This is explained by the fact that they need to be accessed as quickly as possible. Special drawers will expand your storage space and speed up access to the things you need.
  • Shoes should be stored seasonally. Only those shoes that are currently actively worn should be placed on the lower shelves. Other shoes should be put away in boxes to preserve their high-quality and beautiful original appearance.
  • Hats should be on a separate shelf. They should be treated with great care, since if hygiene is not observed, the condition of the hair may deteriorate.
  • For clothes, it is best to build an additional crossbar. Winter clothes are big and take up a lot of space. That is why you should hang them on hangers, just be sure to take into account the weight that the crossbar will be able to support.
  • All unnecessary household and household items are placed on the top shelves. They do not require constant use, so access to the storage location is not required.
  • Heavy items (vacuum cleaner, suitcase, large sports bags) are placed on the lowest shelves. This reduces the load on the overall structure and makes the pantry more spacious.

If you store things according to these rules, you can not only save space, but also correctly organize the location in the pantry.

Below you can see how to properly organize space in the pantry.

Layout

Repairing a storage room in an apartment must begin with planning. It is necessary to calculate the exact dimensions of the future room, the location of storage spaces and the main materials for finishing. This can only be done if you know the parameters of the corridor, namely the area that can be allocated for this structure. The main thing is to carry out all the calculations rationally, so that later the pantry in the apartment turns out to be multifunctional.

If the apartment is large, as is the area of the corridor, then the owner can create an additional area for storing things. Often such storage rooms are separated by a partition or even an additional room is built. If the dimensions do not allow this, then you can use some room and make a dressing room from the pantry with your own hands.

In the photo below you can see the layout of the storage room in the hallway in a small room.

Pantry layout planning

When carrying out a major renovation in an apartment or country house, a small space is allocated in advance for organizing a storage room.

The best option is considered to be a place located next to the dining room or kitchen.

With this arrangement, all the necessary items will always be located nearby. In small apartments, a compact closet is installed in the hallway for these purposes, and in individual houses you can use a staircase niche. An excellent opportunity to organize space for storing utensils will be the installation of lightweight partitions. This design does not require official registration of redevelopment by BTI representatives.

What can be stored in the pantry

You can build a small storage room in your apartment not only for storing clothes. If there is free space in the corridor, then it can be used to place other things:

  • Tools for repair. If you need to repair or fix something at home, you can use the shelves in the pantry to place them there. Tools should always be at hand.
  • Personal Area. The storage room can easily be converted into an office for work. To do this, it is necessary to remove all unnecessary trash and organize good lighting, because usually there is not enough of it in such a room.
  • Laundry and ironing room. If there is no place in the apartment to place an ironing board or washing machine, then you can specially fence off the space for this. Install plasterboard walls, provide the machine with access to electricity and install an ironing board.
  • Dressing room from the pantry. This is no longer just about storing outerwear and things. A dressing room means a large closet. Perfect for those who have a large amount of clothes that no longer fit in the closet. You can place your shoes there, as well as place a full-length mirror.

If there is additional space in the corridor, then it must be used to organize additional storage. There will always be things that are out of place in the interior of an apartment, but are still needed. In the photo you can see how to carry out repairs in a storage room in a panel house.
