How to arrange a living room: interior design options and the most beautiful examples of modern living room design

Do you remember the large Soviet wall, which was located opposite the sofa and occupied the entire wall? It was very roomy and functional. Massive cabinets were connected along the wall into a continuous structure: mezzanine shelves, a sideboard for dishes, a place for a TV, a compartment with a crossbar for hanging things, a chest of drawers. Of course, such furniture is versatile and practical, but it does not fit into a modern interior at all.

We invite you to get acquainted with alternative furniture options that will replace the clumsy walls of the end of the last century.

Cabinet

If you are a supporter of minimalism, a laconic solution will do - a TV stand. Save space and open up the walls. There are a lot of options: hanging furniture, a cabinet with legs, on wheels or on a stable base. If you want more space and air, choose a model with open shelves.

The TV can be placed on a cabinet or hung above it, freeing up space for decoration. Now there are cabinets with a built-in TV bracket.

Design ideas

A truly airy and weightless look is distinguished by a floating design consisting of a wide variety of elements, such as interesting cabinets, bedside tables or hanging shelves. Such models are often equipped with backlighting, which makes them even more light.

The walls with a fireplace or bar counter, which combine favorably with the rest of the furniture in the living room, or two-color products, decorated in the same color or shades opposite to each other, look very stylish in the interior of the hall. Due to this technique, you can visually reduce the size of overall models.

The photo shows a living room with a wall equipped with hanging shelves.

Particularly popular are facades with mirrors or frosted, transparent glass, which can be decorated with photo printing, pleasant simple patterns and designs, rhinestones, or supplemented with lighting. Glossy models are no less popular. Such furniture elements add an interesting play of light to the living room and give it an elegant look.

Models with showcases, designs with carved openwork doors, inserts made of leather, rattan or antique products, which stand out from the general background due to their unique decor and naturalness, look quite original and unusual.

The photo shows a wooden wall without a niche for a TV in the interior of a classic living room.

Oval furniture elements, products made in a semicircle or structures with rounded facades look respectable and solid in the interior of the hall. These models have smooth lines and a streamlined shape, which allows for softer transitions in the design of the room.

Closet

A sliding wardrobe with a special place for a TV will be a good replacement for an oversized wall. It can be built-in, occupy the entire wall or only a separate part.

Corner models are popular. They feature open shelving to display beautiful decor and plants. If you want to visually expand the space, choose a cabinet with mirrored doors.

Types of display cases for the living room

A glass showcase is a kind of sideboard with transparent sides; this is a classic form, but there are options.

A small showcase with 2-3 shelves and all transparent walls is an excellent alternative to a glass coffee table.

It can be used as a pedestal for sculpture, a stand for a mirror, a striking clock or an original lamp.

A multi-section display cabinet offers a lot of space; it is placed along a solid wall. Unlike a single-section glass cabinet, such furniture has 2, 3 and 4 compartments, separated by glass or wooden panels.

Expensive models made of mahogany with backlight look the most interesting.

The showcase comes with a closed bottom or an open one, there are corner ones and in the shape of a polyhedron. A showcase with a rounded or shaped top is called a “slide”.

At one time they were popular as part of a furniture “wall”, but modern solutions are more interesting.

Showcase glass for the living room can vary:

  • transparent and matte;
  • with sandblasted pattern;
  • with carved notch;
  • with applied crystals;
  • with tint effects;
  • with stained glass inserts.

Some expensive models are impressive with the decor and rich texture of natural wood or veneer, patterned mosaic in the style of marquetry.

The list of expensive decor is complemented by wood carvings, inlays, moldings and figured panels on the wood part of the display case.

Most glass showcases are floor-standing, but there are also wall-mounted ones. Floor-standing models are the most stable, with a solid base or graceful curly legs; they can be loaded to the limit with heavy dishes. The fittings are massive gilded.

In light glass models, the handles on the doors are often not visible; they open via a hinge at the top or bottom, and less often there is a foot pedal.

Designers recommend choosing:

  • An all-glass cabinet with LED lighting from below and above will decorate a modern interior.
  • Models with a predominance of wood are classics.
  • Elegant light models with rich decor – historical style.
  • A modest china buffet - country or retro.

Any glass display case can be picked up with delivery; as a rule, they are insured by the manufacturer.

You can guarantee that they will be delivered safe and sound, on site and assembled. It is important not to miscalculate the dimensions and load of dishes on fragile glass shelves.

The choice of model depends on your budget and living room decor.

Only the buyer can decide what to choose - an expensive multi-section luxury cabinet, an exhibition piece from a furniture showroom, or a lightweight budget pencil case.

Pay attention to corner models and double-sided display cases for zoning. Even more interesting offers are in our photo gallery.

We have a lot of beautiful dishes (not Soviet crystal, but really good things). But I don’t understand how best to proceed. Do you think it’s normal to display dishes in the living room (in open shelves or racks) or is it better to put everything in the pantry?

Buffet

Until recently, buffets, or showcases, were undeservedly forgotten. Now designers are bringing them back into fashion, using them in stylish interior design options. A traditional buffet has a closed bottom and top with glass front and side doors. Modern models can be completely glazed.

An interesting option is a pair of small buffets on both sides of the TV stand. For a small room, look for a corner buffet or a lightweight version of a display cabinet - a hanging buffet. It can store a small amount of dishes.

Get rid of the old solid wall and replace it with modern alternatives. Go to the Divan.ru store catalog, choose ergonomic, roomy, beautiful pieces of furniture and create stylish interiors.

Types of cabinet furniture for dishes

A display cabinet is something between a sideboard and a real glass showcase, where it is appropriate to place:

  • beautiful dishes;
  • original souvenirs;
  • collectibles;
  • hand-made products;
  • exotic shells;
  • rare volumes;
  • antiques, etc.

Everything that is worthy of being on display fills the display case in the living room.

Glass protects the exhibition from dust, temperature changes, excess humidity, and accidental touches from hands or paws of pets.

The showcase has much in common with a sideboard, which has less glass and a more massive wood body.

A cabinet for “guest” dishes with glass doors used to be a mandatory attribute of the living room, but today it is being replaced by new forms.

Glass cabinets are becoming more open; they have transparent not only the front doors, but also the sides.

The sideboard is the oldest predecessor of the sideboard, but its place was in the kitchen. Bourgeois life at the beginning of the twentieth century assumed eclecticism; any furniture was brought into the house, looking for a free corner for it.

But some kind of display case for expensive porcelain tableware can be seen in a palace interior, however, if the living room had the functions of a dining room.

Modern cabinet furniture can additionally have other functional loads.

Glass shelves for dishes and souvenirs are used as light shelving in the wall separating the living room and kitchen compartment.

This method of zoning with furniture looks modern and original.

Designers also offer display cases built into the wall that are separated by pilasters or rectangular columns.

Between them there are glass shelves with lighting, and there may be no front doors.

Style is everything

It is important not only to choose a stylish wardrobe for yourself, but also to take care of the “image” of the sideboard. The dishes placed in it should be harmoniously combined in terms of purpose and the material from which they are made. Crystal and ceramics cannot be placed together. Shot glasses, glasses and wine glasses are not suitable “neighbors” for tea sets.

If you have expensive dishes, but you practically never use them, it is not rational to take up space with them in the sideboard. It’s better to put there what you use every day. This will simplify the process of setting the table, and there’s no point in hiding luxury dishes behind glass.

Important! Dishes should be combined not only in quality and purpose, but also in cost. The photo shows how you can stylishly and neatly place plates, cups, and gravy boats in a sideboard with glass doors.

Features when choosing a display cabinet

  • In an apartment, ceilings are rarely higher than 2.5 meters, so the height of a display cabinet can reach only half a meter, but a height of 1.5 to 2 meters is more common. Therefore, when choosing a display cabinet, be sure to take into account the dimensions of the room, so that instead of a living room you won’t be able to create a pantry completely filled with furniture and littered with things.
  • Choose only especially durable glass in the display cabinet - tempered. Find out everything in advance before purchasing. The seller must have a quality certificate for all products. Parents should be careful not to place glass shelves and cabinet doors within close reach of small children.
  • Materials for the facade can be very simple and affordable. More often these are laminated chipboard, chipboard, MDF and preferred types of valuable wood, artificially aged or even antiques with expensive inlay with valuable metals and stones. As they say, for every taste and budget.
  • A display cabinet with a mirror looks ideal in any room, because it creates the illusion of at least doubling the space. Furniture and objects seem to float in weightlessness.
  • Any self-respecting furniture factory is famous for its good fittings. Only high-quality fittings can withstand vertical loads from heavy materials and frequent use of cabinet doors for a long time.
  • Modern cabinets use lighting. Thanks to the lighting, the living room looks even more modern, the space seems more airy and light. For lighting in the closet, you need to take care in advance of the presence of nearby energy sources: sockets or carriers.

  • The color and style of the display cabinet should always match the design of the room, for example, classic furniture, no matter how expensive and rare it is, is completely out of place in a high-tech living room. A dark facade color is never suitable for a small living room. It constantly gathers dust and visually makes the space smaller.
  • The legs of the cabinet must be adjustable, because floors are rarely perfectly level. This reduces the life of the furniture because over time it warps to one side. Doors don't close well and even shelves can fall.

Fashion always moves forward, so many of the interior items become a thing of the past, but not the display cabinet for the living room. Create a display of treasured memorabilia in the main room of your home so that it fills your home with a spirit of grace and beauty every day. Let your guests feel the traditions and culture of your family, because this is important for pleasant communication with each other.

If there is a sideboard with a transparent door in the kitchen or dining room, then it will be the second most important piece of furniture, after the table. Therefore, it will influence both the style and mood of the room. From a practical point of view, you should decide whether it will only hold holiday dishes or everyday plates. Whatever your choice, we will inspire you to create a true masterpiece.

Let's start with items for every day. If beautiful dishes are rarely used in the dining room, then it may be worth putting them in a box and putting them away, and filling the cabinet with things you use every day. Plates, mugs and glasses that are always at hand will simplify table setting, and behind the glass of the sideboard they will look no worse than beautiful models. The lower drawers are useful for storing cutlery and napkins.

To make an everyday look more festive, you can place vases of flowers or candles on the shelves, especially if they are open. They will enliven the interior and decorate the table.

If the choice fell on dishes for a special occasion, then you can admire them, and closed cabinet doors will protect them from dust. If there are more items in the set than can fit into the sideboard, then you shouldn’t cram everything in there. Arrange what you can beautifully, and put the rest in drawers.

Some things should be put up and some things should be put down. It is better to place large plates vertically, so that it rests on the wall. If you feel like a plate might fall, you can secure it with a stack of others.

For everyday dishes, this rule also works - a large dish can be placed between the sideboard wall and cups or plates.

If you stack similar items, you can not only save space, but also give your closet a stylish look. Cups, gravy boats and cake stands look good this way.

In the case when all the plates for cakes are stored in one place, it is worth thinking about other items that are required mainly during the holidays. For example, cake candles can be placed in a cup, drinks can be placed on one of the shelves, and flower vases can be placed on the other.

If you hang the most beautiful item from the set, you can not only stylishly update the interior of the room, but also save some space. The main thing is to look at the places on the shelves before driving a nail into the wall to determine the correct location.

The glasses should be lined up like soldiers on parade - evenly, clearly and neatly. For each type you need to allocate its own shelf, and not mix them.

A little contrast will add interest to the entire room. If you use white plates, then consider a black sideboard. The dishes will stand out against a dark or bright background.

Even if only the interior decoration of the cabinet is contrasting, the dishes will immediately look completely different.

If after arranging there is little space left, you can add pleasant dynamics with the help of other objects. For example, a combination of plates and books or an unusual painting would be interesting.

Even in the living room, such a piece of furniture would be appropriate if you give it the desired effect - for example, combining dishes and vases.

You can approach the sideboard from the other side and fill it with books, which will look amazing behind the glass door. Moreover, the more books, the better.

When in doubt, always stick to symmetry. To prevent this arrangement from being completely boring, you can add some interesting candle or vase to the dishes.

If there is a sideboard in the kitchen, it is given the second most important role after the table. It influences the style of the room and the mood. It would seem that what could be difficult about arranging dishes in a sideboard? Are there any special instructions? No, but there are rules that every housewife should know and follow.

About the article:

How to choose wallpaper for the living room?

And pay special attention to color and ornament. There are different options for decorating the walls: wallpaper, painting or unusual stone laying. But when in doubt, always go with white.

Also, the wallpaper for the living room should be thicker than for other rooms. They should not be heavily exposed to sunlight, otherwise they will quickly fade.

The living room is the place where people always gather. Therefore, it is not advisable to choose wallpaper that is too light or dark. You should give preference to non-staining and practical wallpaper.

The size of the rooms should also be taken into account. For small rooms, not only light wallpaper is suitable, but also wallpaper with a minimal amount of pattern and a large space between images. Don't be afraid to experiment with colors.

Straight vertical lines will help to visually enlarge a room. Such lines do not have to run along the entire length of the wallpaper; it is enough that they are near the corners.

For large living rooms, you can select larger images. To do this, just look at the photo examples and understand how to choose the right wallpaper for the living room.

To make your room feel better, decorate it with bright and rich wallpaper. It is desirable that they be vinyl or non-woven. Glass wallpaper is practical and will last a long time, and if you are not afraid that in a year you will have to do repairs again, then hang fabric wallpaper.

How to properly place dishes in a sideboard?

Stylish arrangement of dishes in a sideboard, how to do it? There are several rules that will help you create a beautiful composition of dishes, and not assorted chaos. There may be many original items, but not all of them fit together. So, what rules should you follow when you decide how to beautifully arrange dishes in a sideboard?

Rule #1. Single style:

  • Don't display everything you have in your bins. From the available sets and services, select those that most harmoniously combine not only with each other, but also with the color scheme of the room.
  • Sets and services standing next to each other must be combined in functionality and the material from which they are made. Do not place crystal glasses next to the coffee set.
  • Do not place figurines, vases and other small items next to crystal - place them only near ceramics and porcelain.

Rule #2. Observe the measure:

  • You shouldn’t display everything from the services. Choose the most successful things: a salad bowl, a teapot, a milk jug, a fish dish, a couple of cups and saucers, and leave the stacks of plates at the bottom.
  • Arrange items so that there is space between them and each item can be looked at.
  • Place family heirlooms and items that are especially valuable to you in a place of honor - in the center of the composition, at eye level. But if there are a lot of them, choose a few, hide the rest for now. When you change the arrangement of dishes in the sideboard, replace them with others.

Rule #3. Harmonious arrangement of objects of different sizes:

  • The arrangement of objects arranged from largest to smallest in steps looks tasteless. Divide the dishes into several groups and make a beautiful composition out of them.
  • When arranging cookware elements, place the tallest ones closer to the far wall, and place the smallest ones closer to the doors.

Important! Don't know how to beautifully arrange glasses in a glass cabinet? Surround tall champagne glasses with crystal shot glasses.

Rule #4. Cabinet color compatibility:

  • From all the sets of dishes, select for the sideboard those that will look most advantageous on the shelves.

Important! White porcelain and crystal will look chic in a dark wood sideboard. But in a light sideboard, bright dishes will sparkle with colors, but crystal and glass objects can look inconspicuous.

  • Nearby compositions should also match in color. You can play beautifully with contrast.

Important! A red set will fit perfectly next to the ivory-colored dishes.

Experience of an amateur gardener and gardener. We also have experience in repairing cars and motorcycles. Hobbies: playing the guitar and many other things that I don’t have enough time for :) Bookcases with glass doors, at first glance, are quite simple furniture. However, when it comes to choosing them, people usually have a lot of questions. To help, below I will tell you about all the existing varieties of this furniture and its features, as well as share other useful information on this topic, which will certainly help you make the right choice.

How to arrange objects?

Build triangles

I especially like this principle, and I bet 90% of the people you know have never thought about it! Pay attention to the shelving designed by a professional decorator. Everything looks logical and harmonious. But how to achieve the same effect?

Now visually connect vintage Kushinas, white books, figurines, aged greenish bottles with lines... do you see the triangles? Each object in this composition has its own clear position, corresponding to the triangle rule.

Moreover, the triangles do not have to be identical and isosceles. Triangles of different shapes add dynamics to the composition.

Emily Henderson, the famous American decorator, is a true genius of composition. Each item in her works is carefully selected and takes its place for a reason. Pay attention to this rack. Golden rooster tail – bowl trim – chain; blue vase – book cover – plate; gray vases – picture in frame; milky dishes.

And here - do you see the golden, white, black, blue triangles?

An endless number of examples can be given. On this rack you can find a lot of triangles, due to which the composition looks balanced and logical.

Now you can easily notice the relationship between vases of flowers, metal objects, vintage items and book cover colors in this photo.

Here are a couple more examples:

Layering: Use the height and depth of your shelf

All items on the shelf should be harmoniously combined in height: if you want to place a low vase or small figurines on the shelf, place them on stacks of books. This way you will place them on a pedestal and draw attention to them.

If you're placing a short item on a shelf, place a book or photo frame behind it to balance the height of the arrangement.

Use layers to make your composition interesting and dynamic.

The same effect can be achieved by combining stacks of books laid horizontally and arranged vertically.

Free space sometimes means more than the decor itself

You shouldn’t fill every centimeter of the shelf with books and decor. Even beautifully grouped interesting objects can become a shapeless heap if you do not visually separate the objects from each other. Free space on the shelves will make the room visually more spacious, which is especially important when working on.

If you have a huge number of books and you don’t know where to put them, make several compositions: put books on the coffee table, put them on shelves in other rooms, put books that you have hardly opened in the last few years in boxes.

Symmetry and paired objects

Another win-win option: use several identical items standing in a row or symmetrically on adjacent shelves.

Heavy down, beautiful up

Here we mean not only physical, but also visual weight. Place large encyclopedias and stacks of magazines on the lower shelves. Place small books in beautiful covers, decorative items, and candles higher - at eye level. The lower shelves solve functional problems, the upper ones solve aesthetic problems.

The main room of the apartment deserves to be the most luxurious in the house. A worthy decoration is shop windows.

What is a display cabinet?

Modern display cabinets or simply showcases are, in fact, a remake of the once popular sideboard and walls, or even furniture of earlier eras. Just three centuries ago, every rich house considered it obligatory to display expensive, beautiful things that emphasized financial freedom and the high position of the owners on the social ladder.

The name display cabinet reveals the design features of this piece of furniture. This is a cabinet with glass doors, behind which the shelves and the objects displayed on them are clearly visible. Glass makes the display case visually light, compact, and adds light and solemnity to the entire room without overloading it.

Why do you need a showcase?

A display cabinet for the living room performs two functions: utilitarian and aesthetic. Practical benefits in the efficient storage of expensive items: the design combines the openness of the shelves and their complete protection from external influences. Aesthetic – in the ability to admire them.

Thus, showcase cabinets are designed to store not everything, but only expensive, beautiful things. Glass doors do not hide them, but prevent accidental falls. This is especially important if there are small children in the house. Dust does not settle as intensively on glass-covered shelves and objects, which is also important.

What to put?

The showcase in the living room interior, as a rule, is not cluttered so that you can appreciate the beauty of each item. The contents of the shelves speak about the interests, passions, achievements, and successes of the home owners in various areas. This could be: exclusive crystal, porcelain (especially Meissen), other tableware; prizes and awards received by household members; exhibits from personal collections; souvenirs from countries visited by family members; library. This determines another purpose of the display case: to embody memories of pleasant moments in life. To prevent it from being overshadowed, an appropriate frame is needed, that is, a frame. It should be made of valuable wood, such as wenge.

What types of showcases are there?

The classification of such furniture is carried out on several grounds: purpose, shape, dimensions, location.

Showcases in the interior perform different functions, which are determined by the internal content.

Pedestal.

This display case in the living room is intended for figurines. As a rule, it is low, often it is a cabinet with internal lighting.

Slide

Inside it is a wall well known to several generations. The modern modification is recognized by its rounded top or polyhedron shape. It consists of several cabinet segments with open shelves and glass doors that open independently of each other, but are combined into a single whole. Usually books or dishes are stored here.

Sideboard.

Furniture exclusively for dishes with shelves made of wood or glass. The choice is determined by its heaviness: from wine glasses to tureens.

Buffet.

A classic display case for dishes in the living room with a closed bottom and a glass top. The lower part of the buffet is equipped with drawers or doors.

Library.

Essentially the same traditional book wall or cabinet. It has a strong frame and thick solid wood shelves designed to hold heavy books. The design is usually classic, but there are options in other styles.

Installation method.

Like a regular cabinet, a display cabinet is installed on the floor as an independent element of the interior, built into it, or hung on the wall.

Mounted.

Free walls are used above low furniture. The application has two advantages: such display cases complete the interior, adding beauty to it. If the showcase is corner, it looks even more original. Particularly popular in small spaces, where every centimeter of space is accounted for. A good place to store fragile exhibits. However, heavy things are not placed in them.

Floor-standing.

Large, heavy models are arranged in this way: a library, a large sideboard, a wall or a module of several segments, one of which can be a corner showcase.

Location.

The display case can be placed close to the wall or close to it. It is not uncommon to have a corner showcase or one located in the center of the room.

Wall-mounted.

Familiar classic showcases for the living room. The largest models are placed close to the wall, for which any other location is problematic. If this is, for example, a buffet with dishes, for ease of contemplation the interior space is decorated with a mirror.

Fully visible.

Does not have closed walls. It is usually installed in the center. Indispensable if it is important to show the subject from all sides. It may be glass, but being located “at the crossroads” of the room is fraught with problems. It is safer to have at least a small but reliable wooden cabinet at the base.

Corner.

Ideal for a living room with empty corners or a small room. The corner cabinet is small in size, but can accommodate a lot of items. Occupies unused space, adding completeness to the interior.

Dimensions.

There is another classification of display cases - according to shape and size: large cabinets; wide chests of drawers; narrow cabinets. For the living room, different options are chosen: a large display cabinet, a chest of drawers plus cabinets, or a combination of one with the other.

Closet.

Usually massive, placed along the wall. Its design allows for viewing objects from only one side. Used for dishes, as a library or a combined wall.

Dresser.

A low display cabinet with three or all glass walls. Usually displayed along the wall or close to it. Everything is clearly visible in it, so the most beautiful things are displayed here: exotic overseas souvenirs, vases from an oriental bazaar, ancient objects.

Narrow showcase.

It can be glass completely or partially, open on two sides or on one. Narrow display cases for the living room are used as a place to store small exhibits or collections viewed from one side (painted plates, African masks). Library cabinets are almost always made narrow: book lovers prefer to place their wealth in one row.

This is also an effective zoning element:

for small apartments in which the living room serves several functions; to add coziness to a very large living room. Installing a narrow cabinet will competently and effectively divide the space into sections, provide an overview of beautiful things, and such a variety as a corner showcase will save space in a small room.

What are showcases made of?

The market offers frame and shelf materials of different quality and cost. You can choose furniture not only according to your taste, but also your financial capabilities.

Array.

The most expensive material for the frame and shelves. First of all, classical style showcases are made from solid wood. Recently, the color wenge has held the palm. The dark variety is ideal for a library, while the light variety will enhance display cases with dishes.

Chipboard, MDF, veneer.

Cheaper analogues of wood made from modern materials. Reliably imitate natural wood. Of these, the most presentable is veneer, that is, a thin cut of natural wood. And the wenge veneer is simply luxurious. Significantly less expensive than solid wood, it looks no worse.

Design.

The range of modern-style showcases offered on the furniture market is limitless in design and decor. You can buy or order models for living rooms decorated in any style. After all, a new sideboard or wall should look organic and natural against the general background, without being dissonant with the interior.

External.

For small or dimly lit rooms, a white showcase is suitable. It is also bought for a living room that already has white furniture. Various materials are used in the design of the facade, from budget to luxury wenge wood.

Interior.

Determined by the type and number of items stored in the display case. Shelves are most often made of classic, especially durable glass. However, technology has expanded the choice, and today such a variety as a glass display case for the living room is not the only one. It can easily be duplicated by other transparent durable materials, such as plastic or acrylic. However, these are options for light exhibits. Massive items are placed in cabinets with traditional, strong wooden shelves.

Crystal or porcelain will sparkle in a new way if you equip display cases for dishes in the living room with lighting.

The functions of the mirror on the back wall are similar. It makes the display case solemn, visually increasing the volume of both the cabinet and its contents. If the showcase is corner, the mirrors located in it at an angle to each other will create a play of reflections.

Styles.

The decor is selected in accordance with the style of the room, from vintage to high-tech. The main advantage of glass display cases is that they can be combined with furniture of many modern styles (loft, hi-tech, techno).

Wooden display cabinets are harmonious for living rooms in a classic style. Such models, especially those made from wenge, are luxurious, majestic, signaling good taste, some conservatism and respectability of the owners. Classics are made from solid wood and richly decorated. Of course, you need the appropriate utensils.

A shelf in a living room is a familiar attribute, practical, convenient, and sometimes irreplaceable.

Such shelves are often used to store a home library, some small items, accessories and decorative elements. The shelf significantly transforms the appearance of the room.

How to decorate a shelf with your own hands?

The apartment is most often decorated with your own hands, and shelves are no exception. To get the job done, you need to buy a regular shelf, no frills. Most often it is a piece of wood or plastic.

The decor is made using materials such as leather, natural wood additions, forging, and dyeing.

It’s not at all difficult to design a unique shelf; the main thing is to think through a work plan. It is best to make basic outlines on paper, and then design the product.

There are different options for how to design a shelf, and there are a lot of ideas on the Internet that are worth checking out. There are so many ideas that it’s not difficult at all, even without designers, to create beautiful decorative shelves for a TV in the living room.

The furniture matches the style of the room, and is suitable in style, color, and material. It is best that some of the elements are selected to match the type of furniture.

When choosing, it is important to understand that the shelf must be stable, durable, reliable, and support the normal weight of objects.

Shelves in the interior of the living room are the main attribute, because they are used both as storage of small things and as decoration. The shelf does not take up much space, but at the same time it complements the interior.

If you have to choose a shelf, then you should make the choice according to its further purpose.

Of course, the appearance of the shelf is of no small importance, and therefore you can look through photos of shelves in the living room, see what varieties there are, maybe you will like something and make the choice easier.

What to put on the wall in the living room?

Internal filling options:

  • Under the TV. The TV model is the most functional, laconic and practical piece of furniture, capable of installing plasma, speakers and other related equipment, thereby ensuring comfortable use for the whole family.
  • For dishes. A wall with a sideboard for dishes, due to the transparent glass design and beautifully arranged plates, antique sets and other things on the shelves, will provide the decor of the hall or dining room with additional light, visual lightness and solemnity.
  • For books. Thanks to this sectional product, it is possible to achieve the necessary conditions for storing books. In addition, with the help of a well-chosen book design, you can advantageously decorate any interior design of the room.
  • For decorative elements. Various decor, placed on shelves or placed in a display case, will give the design of the room a special personality and at the same time coziness and warmth.
  • Flowers. The wall provides the opportunity for a neat and beautiful arrangement of pots with flowers, which become the main accent of the room.
  • Cloth. A model with a wardrobe allows you to conveniently store necessary things and create order in the room.

Corner shelf

For the living room, a so-called transforming shelf is often purchased, which changes its size and shape. Its disadvantage is that it can withstand little weight, but despite this, it is often attached to the wall.

Another popular variety is shelving, which will perfectly complement any design, especially if the room is in a country or high-tech style. This rack takes up minimal space.

Construction types:

  • The cylinder rotates around an axis, and therefore it is easy to have access to all the objects that are placed there.
  • Built-in shelves in the living room in a specially created niche make it possible to use every centimeter.
  • Stepped rack - sections, shelves. This is the best option for numerous books, as well as for dishes and decor. Used for zoning a room.
  • Lattice - a combination of shelves diagonally, vertically and horizontally. Such shelves for the living room on the wall look chic in a room decorated in a modern high-tech style.

Free space and lightness

Air between objects is the best visual separator. Without it, the entire decor, even carefully arranged according to the rules, risks turning into a single spot. Give each object or group additional empty space around it.

Sometimes it's even better to leave entire sections empty. If this seems wasteful to you, doors on some bins or neutral boxes that fit exactly to size will do just as well.

Another rule for maintaining visual lightness: heavy (not so much in weight as in feel) objects down, light ones up. The lower shelves can be densely packed with heavy volumes of encyclopedias, and the shelves at eye level can be flaunted with several elegant objects. If the rack is very high, up to the ceiling, the topmost shelves can again be used, but it is important that they do not draw attention. The ideal solution would be a row of identical boxes, paper folders or books of the same series.

Folders can help not only in storing papers, but also serve as a kind of vertical boxes - several books with unpleasant covers or small equipment such as a router can be hidden behind the beautiful spine of the folder.

A display cabinet in the living room is best suited for storing holiday dishes, favorite and memorable items, and various rare souvenirs. Such furniture looks elegant and tasteful, while leaving a sufficient amount of space. Most of the display cabinets are glass so that everyone can admire their decoration. Very often, such a piece of furniture is the decoration of the living room and its center of attention.

There are closed sections for things that are undesirable to be shown to strangers, so the display cabinet in the living room also serves well a practical function: to protect documents and things from dust, sun and dirt.

Modular shelves

It is most appropriate to use shelves covered with glass in the living room. Such modern living room shelves allow you to store some luxurious items.

Interestingly, glass does not catch the eye at all, and therefore this option is applicable in small rooms, for example, in a living room in a Khrushchev-era building.

Open attributes are used near the window, because they can miraculously combine with a coffee table. Hanging shelves - space saving.

In a classic interior, it is permissible to use objects made of wood of the correct shape, which are decorated with carvings and forging.

In country style, it is wise to use untreated, aged items. High-tech style uses glass or metal shelves. Their shape is most often irregular.

Suspended structure with TV

In the project of Daria and Leonid Solovyov, a suspended structure with a TV was mounted opposite the sofa. The TV has a rotating mechanism, so you can watch it while sitting on the sofa or from the kitchen, which is combined with the living room. There are also sockets inside and all the wires are hidden. And on the side there are open shelves for storing small items and decor.

The kitchen will become your favorite place if you illuminate the apron.

Construction and design of classic sideboards

The design of the sideboard resembles a table buffet. But, unlike a buffet, a sideboard can consist of several sections, each of which is designed to store certain things.

In its classic embodiment, a sideboard is a piece of furniture, conditionally consisting of two elements:

  • upper body with glass doors;
  • bottom chest of drawers.

The world's first sideboards were made exclusively from precious wood. The fashion of the 18th century demanded ornateness, sophistication and pretentiousness, so sideboards were often decorated with complex carved elements, gold plating, curved legs and rich fittings. At the same time, the sideboard could be made either in the form of a single structure or in the form of two independent elements - a massive wide chest of drawers and an elongated high display case. The chest of drawers, as a rule, was equipped with shelves or drawers in which housewives stored kitchen utensils or textile items. As for the display case, its space was divided by shelves into several sectors, thanks to which it was possible to place a lot of tableware and porcelain items.

Another difference between a sideboard and a buffet is the presence of doors. If the upper part of the buffet can be open, then the sideboard showcase, as a rule, was equipped with doors with glass elements. Depending on the shape and design features, this piece of furniture could have one, two or several doors, which were often complemented by wooden frames, doors and decorative details.

Despite the fact that the sideboard was originally created to store dishes and cutlery, this piece of furniture could be placed not only in the kitchen or dining room, but also in any other room. For example, the interior fashion of 18th-century France made it possible to place a sideboard in the most prominent place in the living room or reception hall.

In our open spaces, the sideboard gained popularity in Soviet times. But since at that time people preferred maximum simplicity and conciseness, the design of this piece of furniture was greatly transformed. The facade of the Soviet sideboard was not decorated, but was carefully cleaned and polished, which is why the product began to look like a kind of cupboard.

It may seem that a sideboard is purely decorative furniture, which is used in modern designs only to add additional style. However, this is not only a beautiful, but also quite functional item that allows you to organize a convenient storage system for things and utensils.

How to choose the color of the living room?

The ideal color for the main room of the house would be white and its tones. Bed colors always look great, especially if the room is dark. It is advisable to choose pleasant and warm colors to make the living room pleasant to be in.

Furniture can be brown, walls, curtains and other furniture can be white, dark or even green. The main thing is that the room design should not have more than three different color shades. It all depends on your preferences.

If you want to add more light, you can play with white, blue and brown. You can add variety and additional accents with the help of multi-colored pillows that will harmonize with the sofa, walls, furniture and the overall design of the room.
