Where to store the ironing board: traditional and non-standard solutions

Here we are chose and bought the best iron in the world and the same wonderful ironing board. Do you already know where you will store these things? I’ll be honest and frank – there are not just many options for storing an ironing board and iron, but a lot. And as they say, there is something for every taste and budget.

Let's start with the simplest ones, and then we'll see.

Transformer ironing board – mirror

Every house and apartment has a large mirror. It is possible to combine two such dissimilar objects - an ironing board and a mirror. The ironing board itself transforms into a mirror.

Or the ironing board is hidden behind the mirror in a small cabinet.

A cabinet, as in the last photo, can be not only mirrored, but also very stylish.

Build a shelving unit between the wall and the closet

This can be a simple frame structure of small width exactly according to the width of the board. A retractable or exhaust frame is made like a rack and is installed in any opening - between the wall and the cabinet, refrigerator. The board is left on the legs or removed from the supports; only the plane for ironing is fixed to the frame.

What to do if you don’t want to move the board to iron things

If the apartment is small, you need to allocate a suitable place for storing the board where you usually iron. If you like to iron in the kitchen, select an appropriate place, for example, behind the kitchen door. If you like to iron things and watch TV, hide the board behind the cabinet, under the sofa, or in the designated section of the closet. If you are a seamstress and you use a folding table several times a day, there is no point in hiding it anywhere. You can make the board part of the studio interior. Wear a stylish cover, for example, made of a plain fabric that matches the color of the walls. The metal part can be spray painted.

• If you decide to place the ironing board in a dark corner, consider whether you have enough lighting.

• Do not store the board in the corridors so as not to block the way to other rooms.

A solution for everyone

To ensure that the ironing board does not take up space and is always within reach, you can use the following idea.

By hanging a special model on the door, you forever solve the issue of placing the ironing board.

This model can be found in online stores and its cost is comparable to the price of an average ironing board.

It is very convenient to place the ironing board on the bathroom door, but it is important to take care in advance of additional reinforced hinges for the door leaf.

There are also models that attach to the wall and fold vertically.

Monoblock

Modern solutions for clothing care are offered by large manufacturers of household appliances.

For example, one of my favorite devices is an ironing station from a well-known manufacturer.

It is convenient for its portability and functionality.

Despite its size, the station is easy to operate and easy to move. Special rubberized wheels do not leave dents on the parquet and moving the station does not require serious physical exertion.

In the closet

The most popular and convenient way to store an ironing board is in a vertical compartment in a closet. Its average size is 20 cm horizontally and 2 m vertically.

The advantage of this method is that the ironing iron will not only not be in plain sight, but will also not create unnecessary inconvenience in the form of having to move other things aside to get it out.

The ideal option is to provide such a compartment in the closet in advance, but if the furniture has already been purchased, it can be added by simply partitioning off a space in the closet.

On the wall

Space on the wall is most often simply empty; at best, it is decorated with paintings or other interior items. At the same time, it can be used much more rationally.

It is enough to fix several coat hooks on the wall and hang the ironing board on them. It is best to use metal hooks - they are guaranteed to support its weight.

To disguise the ironing board hanging on the wall, you just need to choose upholstery whose color will match the furniture, curtains or wall.

Put away in a drawer

Compact ironing boards without legs are hidden in a drawer in the kitchen or bedroom or laundry room.
A home craftsman can easily cope with the problem by attaching a couple of runners and a board. When choosing a location area, pay attention to ease of access. Some housewives prefer to leave the board in plain sight. They build a beautiful cover, the piece of furniture becomes an interior detail. You can also build an open storage system - place a board next to a hanger or clothes rack and a large mirror.

Dryer storage

Drying devices make life much easier if you don’t have a balcony or have large amounts of laundry to wash. They come in several types:

  • retractable;
  • hanging;
  • folding

When a big wash is going on, for some time you have to see a folding drying rack in front of you, hung with various things. After drying, it is collected and sent for storage in a closet or other place.

But it is much more convenient to use hanging drying devices, which can be retractable or static.

The most convenient are hanging dryers, which are not too noticeable. They are hung in any convenient place and used when necessary. Special curtains hide the structure from view. And if you paint it to match the color of the walls, it will not attract attention at all.

How to store?

The most practical storage option that is suitable for even the tiniest room is a transformable ironing board.

Depending on the type of room and its style, it can be securely hidden from human eyes in a variety of places: for example, in a desk drawer, closet or even bedside table.

Such boards can be different in size, however, we recommend choosing a smaller option: this way you will reduce the risk of breakage and eliminate the difficulties when unfolding.

would be a good idea :

it is placed on the wall or hidden in a special cabinet, in which you can additionally place an iron and the necessary items for ironing, which greatly facilitates and speeds up the process of ironing clothes. A cabinet with a board will fit well into any interior - you can decorate it to your liking.

If you already have a regular ironing board and you want to somehow place it in the interior, then the most acceptable option is to hang it behind the door.

Quite often the space there is not used, and in this case you will have a chance to fix it. For more ideas on how to arrange the space behind the door, see this article. It is also possible to store the board on the door itself, but in this case you should take into account the degree of injury risk: if you slam the door harder, the board may unexpectedly fall on your leg or crush a peacefully sleeping cat.

How to iron bed linen

We all know the feeling of sliding into a freshly made hotel bed with cool, crisp sheets. It's one of the most anticipated luxuries in a hotel, so it's no wonder that after a vacation we often shop in search of more discussion in hopes of achieving the same feeling pampering at home. However, if you really want to impress your guests and achieve the same meticulous appearance as a luxury five-star hotel, the key is to properly starch and iron your bed linens. Here's how to do it:

  1. Remove clothes from the dryer before they are completely dry.

Ideally, cotton linens should be slightly damp to the touch. This will make ironing easier.
  2. Spray each piece with starch. This is really the key to achieving the same look as a hotel bed. The starch goes beyond the water as the fabric zips up to keep your laundry crisp (but not stiff) longer. Starch also makes your linens smoother, so they feel nice and cool when you or your guests wear them.
  3. Fold the sheets in half lengthwise. This will speed up the ironing process and give you a nice, comfortable panel to work with. Since the sheet is folded lengthwise, the folds will not be visible once you make the bed. For fitted sheets, secure the corners over the ironing board so that the elastic does not interfere with ironing.
  4. Iron on high heat. There's something amazing about watching the wrinkles melt away from your bedding as you run a hot iron over them.

Wait until the iron is completely hot before handling the folded sheet - this will help ensure each layer is pressed well.

  5. Don't miss the pillowcases. Fluffy, smooth pillows are the centerpiece of a well-made bed. Each pillowcase should be carefully starched and pressed before inserting the pillows.
  6. Smooth and toned. Make your bed with freshly ironed linens, taking care to iron each layer. Tuck the corners of each layer as well as the pillowcases tightly for the perfect look.

Time saving tips:

Don't let a lack of time keep you from the simple luxury of crawling into a perfectly made bed at night. Here are some tips to speed up the process when time is of the essence:

  1. Starch and press the pillowcases. Since pillowcases are the most visible of all bedding items, simply starching and pressing the pillowcases will greatly improve the overall appearance of your bed made.

  2. Iron the (dry) sheets while they are on the bed. Although the end result may not be as clear, this method is easier and faster than using an ironing board. You can still use starch to get rid of wrinkles even faster. A word of caution - be sure to research the mattress material and associated heating settings before ironing the sheets on your bed. It is not recommended to iron the sheets on the bed if the heat could damage the mattress. If you choose to iron on the bed, move quickly and lightly.
  3. Focus only on the top quarter. You can still get the polished look of a hotel bed by starching and ironing only the pillowcases and the top quarter of the fitted and flat sheets—the only part that is visible when the bed is made. It may seem a little cheating, but once you fluff the pillows and smooth out the duvet , you (and your guests) will be impressed by how luxurious your bed looks with minimal effort.
