Do-it-yourself beds made of plastic panels: description, instructions and reviews

What do you need to know before making beds?

To make the plants feel comfortable and bear fruit well, and to make it convenient for you to walk and do gardening work, you need to follow the recommendations regarding the optimal type of beds.

  • Their optimal width is eighty to ninety centimeters. Two or three crops can be planted on such a plot.
  • Any length of the bed is allowed and depends on the size of the garden and the location of the paths. But it is recommended that the ridge be no longer than four to six meters.
  • It’s good to make the beds high. Let them rise ten to fifteen centimeters. This reduces the likelihood that debris from the path and grass seeds that grow nearby will get into the garden bed.

Types of plastic beds

Edging the beds with plastic allows you to implement various forms of structures on the site. The owners focus on a floral arrangement or frame a valuable tree. A large selection of PVC fencing allows you to make your landscape design special and cozy.

Decorative border can imitate the texture of wood, stone, brickwork

The garden designer allows you to realize the fantasies of a summer resident and create lawns of unusual shapes. Small elements are assembled into a single chain and secured with fastenings.

For fixing, a protrusion is provided in the parts into which a fastening rod is inserted.

The advantage of such structures is their ease of installation. No work is required to prepare the site for arranging the flower bed. The side is installed directly on the ground.

The garden constructor is used for fencing large flower beds. Smaller beds are decorated with other plastic materials.

Border tape

Plastic beds are made from flexible tape. Various textures of the border barrier and a large selection of colors allow the summer resident to make the garden unique and attractive. The bed can be given any shape. The barrier is used when planting fast-growing crops. The tape will prevent the roots from spreading beyond the boundaries. Using border fencing, flower appliques are made from various flowers.

In addition to arranging flower beds, border tape is used to organize paths. And also for highlighting an area of a pond, greenhouse or compost pit. To install the tape, first dig a trench 5 cm wide, lay a border and cover it with earth.

Tape height 10-28 cm, thickness 0.5 cm, roll length 10-50 m

Net

To preserve the harvest and prevent access to animals, a PVC mesh is stretched over the frame of the plastic bed. The material has a number of advantages:

  • ease of installation;
  • unlike metal mesh, corrosion does not occur;
  • long period of use;
  • low price.

In addition to fencing the beds, gardeners erect a fence in the front garden or vegetable garden. Plastic mesh is a good alternative to metal mesh.

Nets with small cells are used for fencing beds, and coarse material is used for zoning a personal plot.

Panels

Plastic borders of greenhouse beds are made from panels. Modern manufacturers produce garden boards. Externally, this material is very similar to plastic wall panels. The only difference is that the material is denser and does not bend.

Plastic garden panels are made from non-toxic plastic, so gardeners are not afraid that when exposed to sunlight, the material will release poison.

The convenience of assembling beds from “garden boards” is provided by grooves and protrusions in each part. Such panels are used to decorate not only flower beds and beds, but also a children's sandbox, recreation area or sports ground.

Why do you need to fence your garden beds?

One of the main purposes of fencing is to prevent one type of plant from interfering with another.

There are a number of other advantages of fences:

  • garden land is used as functionally as possible;
  • the process of weed control becomes easier and more effective;
  • the appearance of the garden is much more aesthetically pleasing;
  • it becomes possible to make convenient paths;
  • it is more convenient to fertilize the soil depending on the type of crop planted;
  • it is easier to organize and group seedlings.

And now the question comes, when you decide to create a fence for the beds - what to make the sides from?

Do-it-yourself raised beds at the dacha: photos and design features

What to make raised beds from: top 7 popular materials

The construction of raised beds opens up new opportunities for growing crops in the garden. This approach to organizing plantings allows you to create an interesting design on your site and effectively grow berries, fruits and vegetables. It becomes possible to get a wonderful harvest from a plot whose soil is not particularly fertile.

Raised beds are an ideal solution for areas with waterlogged or dry soil.

Warming up of tall structures occurs much faster than that of ordinary beds. The process of caring for plants is simplified because a person does not have to bend too low.

Features of raised beds: pros and cons of designs

The construction of such structures is accompanied by minimal costs, so summer residents prefer to make high beds for strawberries and vegetable crops.

Raised beds only require digging twice - during planting and during harvesting.

Advantages of raised structures:

  • the availability of a crop does not depend on the quality and composition of the soil on the site. Thanks to this, summer residents and gardeners can grow plants in areas with rocky surfaces or heavy clay soil;
  • beds simplify the process of cultivating the land and do not require extensive care. You only need to dig the ground twice. The first time is in the spring, when the plant is planted, the second time the procedure is done in the fall after harvesting;
  • for processing it is not necessary to dig the soil deeply; it is enough to stir the soil with a garden fork;

Fencing for a high bed made of wooden beams

  • The production of high beds is as simple as possible, as is the procedure for dismantling them. The placement of structures can be easily changed if you want to create a new design on the site;
  • the space inside the product is limited, so removing weeds is not difficult;
  • accelerated ripening of vegetables in high beds is facilitated by a good drainage system, which is organized inside the structure;
  • the soil in high beds is protected from freezing, which often happens in the spring when frost returns. During early autumn frosts, it is enough just to cover the plantings with tarpaulin or polyethylene so that they do not die;
  • the construction of high beds for strawberries allows you to save the berries from being washed away by rainstorms, which often destroy the crop.

Raised beds with sides make gardening much easier

The designs have few disadvantages. They consist in the need for enhanced mineral fertilizing and frequent watering. You will also need to keep an eye on the mole cricket. This pest loves to live in high beds.

What types of fences are there?

The following materials are quickly and inexpensively used as fencing materials for flower beds and beds:

  • metal;
  • plastic;
  • tree;
  • slate;
  • stones and cobblestones;
  • concrete;
  • wicker fences;
  • plastic bottles.

You can also buy ready-made fences, but this is very expensive.

Metal fences are easy to install. But this look won't last long. Another disadvantage is that the metal needs to be treated with special means, you can get hurt on it, and it also heats up easily in the sun.

Wooden fencing has often been used in summer cottages, but it is an expensive option. Such fences also need to be treated from dampness and pests, but this does not help. After all, after some time the tree needs to be partially or completely replaced.

Slate is popular because owners of summer cottages often have pieces left over after re-roofing. In terms of durability, it is better than metal and wood, and does not deform during use.

Decorative stones and cobblestones are the most expensive fencing option. But you can also use available breeds if you have them. Their disadvantage is their size. Therefore, it is better to use stones for flower beds, and not for beds.

The most popular today are beds made of plastic panels, built with your own hands. They have a lot of advantages, thanks to which more and more gardeners are choosing them.

Plastic window sills: want to know why they are so popular?

Replacing old windows with translucent structures of the Euro standard, many people, for some reason, regretfully part with... their window sills.
Often, window sills were made by hand to be used as a stand for flowers or books, for example. Avid gardeners create mini-beds on their windowsills, and in some people’s apartments the window sill serves as a sleeping place for their pets. In a word, no matter how you look at it, a window sill will always come in handy in the household. Therefore, when purchasing Euro-windows, many customers immediately discuss the possibility of purchasing and installing window sills. They can be made of different materials, but plastic window sills .

You should know that the window sills are plastic...

They are made from a special PVC mixture using the extrusion method and have a durable and damage-resistant surface. In addition, during the manufacturing process, an anti-corrosion coating is applied to the surface of the window sills, protecting it from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays and chemicals.

Plastic window sills can successfully withstand deflections, impacts, and pressure of various etiologies. They retain their “pristine” appearance for a long time. Among other things, PVC window sills can withstand weights of up to 140 kg.

The main technical characteristics of plastic window sills are:

  • strength (discussed above);
  • durability of use (like plastic double-glazed windows , window sills can last for 40 years, and even more);
  • environmental friendliness (the materials used in the manufacture of PVC window sills are absolutely safe);
  • absolute resistance to moisture;
  • no deformation due to temperature changes;
  • versatility ( plastic window sills fit into any interior);
  • ease of installation (installation does not require special skills);
  • easy to maintain (to maintain cleanliness, it is enough to wipe PVC window sills with a damp cloth and gentle detergents that do not contain abrasive particles).

Plastic window sills can be of different colors and textures, so choosing a window sill that suits the interior of the room is not difficult. Among other things, it doesn’t matter what kind of windows you order - REHAU plastic windows or double-glazed windows , for example - PVC window sills fit absolutely any brand of window.

Plastic window sills: all about the advantages and their real purpose

What are the advantages of plastic window sills over window sills made from other materials? Even for an ordinary person (not a professional), they are obvious.

  • Firstly, PVC window sills themselves are relatively light in weight, which means they do not create too much load on the wall, which cannot be said about window sills made of stone or concrete, for example.
  • Secondly, plastic window sills are fireproof, unlike wooden window sills.
  • Thirdly, as mentioned above, PVC window sills are absolutely immune to the effects of high temperatures and moisture. Wooden window sills cannot boast of this.
  • Fourthly, plastic window sills do not need painting or varnishing, for example, and they do not need special care and systematic treatment, like wooden window sills.
  • Fifthly, plastic window sills are an additional means of retaining heat in the house. Yes exactly. Of course, high-quality installation of PVC windows provides an optimal level of thermal insulation. However, window sills (especially plastic ones) help provide additional protection to the premises from heat loss. And this (in fact) is the main purpose of window sills.

Types of plastic fences

A very common type of plastic fencing is curb tape. It is sold in rolls, the height of which varies from twenty to fifty centimeters. This tape is flexible and easy to install. It is easy to install and remove if necessary.

This type of plastic fencing is also becoming increasingly known as a garden set. Its appearance resembles wooden stumps. And to install it, you only need to spend a few minutes. To do this, simply water the selected area generously and press the fence into the ground, not forgetting to connect its edges.

Plastic mesh is in less demand, but such fences can also be found in garden beds.

The most common type of plastic fencing is panels. They are comfortable and practical. Also in this regard, plastic panels that remain after repair work are good. Then the cost of fencing the beds is practically zero.

Features of plastic borders for beds in the form of a tape

Plastic fencing in the form of a tape is widely used by summer residents to organize beds and flower beds on the site. Due to the flexibility of the material, the products allow you to create designs with outlines of various shapes. Border strips are available for sale, the width of which varies between 0.1-0.5 m. This height is quite enough to create raised beds on the territory.

The plastic tape protects the embankment from being washed away by water when the garden is watered or heavy rain falls. In such conditions, the root system of plants will remain in place, it is reliably protected from damage by streams.

Plastic border tape will reliably protect the bed or flower garden from erosion

Helpful advice! If it is necessary to limit the growth of bushes on a site, for these purposes it is recommended to buy a plastic border for large-width beds; for zoning lawns, organizing flower beds and ornamental vegetable gardens, as well as forming embankment paths, it is more advisable to use narrow tapes.

The process of installing curb tape does not require experience or special skills. Any summer resident can cope with this task. The product comes complete with the manufacturer's instructions with a detailed description of the procedure and a set of stakes for fixing the curb. To install the tape, just dig a shallow trench around the perimeter of the future bed. Then the tape should be tensioned; it is advisable that this manipulation be performed by two people.

After the tape is placed in the trench, stakes are installed on the sides to secure it in the required position. All that remains is to fill the ditch with earth and compact it thoroughly. To make the structure of the bed continuous, you should connect the edges of the tape with staples using a stapler. Such a bed can last for several years. If necessary, it can be easily removed from the ground and moved to another place.

Curb tape can be easily installed without special experience or training

What fences you can buy for beds in the form of ribbons: features of the range and prices

Landscape designers and owners of summer cottages prefer border strips for the reason that this type of product has increased flexibility. Using plastic borders, you can create unusual flower beds and beds of bizarre shapes; tapes are great for forming curved lines. The price of the material is low, and the extensive range opens up new design possibilities.

By purchasing ribbons of different widths, you can create multi-tiered beds or flower beds on your site, which, due to their decorativeness and compactness, are in high demand among summer residents. Products are available in various colors. A multi-tiered bed design will look more impressive if the sides of each tier have a different shade.

Appearance of plastic fences

You can make different designs for your own garden beds at your dacha. This task is simplified if you buy ready-made panels. Their appearance resembles a low fence, and the color palette is varied.

If you decide to make fences for your garden beds from plastic panels, then after installing them, simply paint the new fence the desired color. The paint can be moisture-resistant or special for outdoor work. The one in which the main fence and elements of the house or barn are painted is also suitable. The ideal option is to choose paint for plastic.

If you slightly increase your budget for the purchase of plastic panels, you will be able to purchase fences in the store, the appearance of which very well imitates various expensive materials. Thus, you may have a fence on your site for a garden bed made of expensive stones, wood, and so on. Moreover, such a fence will be much more practical than its prototype. For example, a white plastic fence will cost about 900 rubles. per meter

As for shapes, plastic panels are easily deformed. They can be bent as you wish, thanks to which your site can have not only the usual rectangular flower beds, but also beds of unusual shapes: round, oval, and so on.

Pros and cons of WPC garden beds

How to make beds with your own hands, not like everyone else?
interesting ideas and photo examples The main advantage of wood-polymer boards is associated with the simple assembly of boxes. In addition, processing of the material is much simpler and more affordable than natural wood. In order to make beds from WPC, according to reviews from gardeners, you do not need to particularly pay attention to how close to the edge of the slats the cut or drilling is made; there is no need, as in the case of wood, to monitor the direction of the fibers in the board.

The second very important advantage is that the material with a polymer content of more than 60% has fantastic durability:

  • Does not rot even with constant contact with water;
  • Does not interact with disinfectant solutions, alkalis and mineral fertilizers.

Important! The only exceptions can be chicken droppings or pig manure, ammonia water. These substances can lead to destruction of the surface layer of WPC. In addition, the wood-polymer composite does not leave chips or burrs on the surface, even with the roughest and careless processing

Therefore, the risk of catching a splinter with your hands or bare feet when arranging borders for beds from DPS is practically zero. No wonder gardeners love to make all kinds of garden furniture, chairs, benches, tables, including for the younger generation

In addition, the wood-polymer composite does not leave chips or burrs on the surface, even with the roughest and most careless processing. Therefore, the risk of catching a splinter with your hands or bare feet when arranging borders for beds from DPS is practically zero. It is not for nothing that gardeners love to make all kinds of garden furniture, chairs, benches, tables, including for the younger generation.

WPC beds, photo, turn out to be safe and warm, since they almost do not absorb moisture, and at the same time they are practically not inferior in appearance to wooden products.

Thanks to the availability of special installation kits for working with wood-polymer composite boards, you can install prefabricated WPC beds with virtually no tools.

Among the negative qualities, we can note poor resistance to solar ultraviolet radiation and boiling water. If you decide to treat boxes with boiling water, you need to be prepared for possible delamination of the surface layer. In addition, the cheapest and most accessible brands of WPC with a wood filler content of up to 70% have a high expansion coefficient, and with sudden heating the material can simply arch and deform.

How to install border tape?

The procedure for installing plastic fencing is as follows:

  1. Determine the length and width of the bed.
  2. Cut the required amount of tape and join the edges with a staple gun.
  3. Dig a small narrow trench at the installation site.
  4. Install the curb into the trench.
  5. Fill the tape on both sides with soil and compact the soil tightly.
  6. If your bed is more than two meters long, then to stabilize the plastic border, support it with metal or wooden pegs. You need to drive them in in a checkerboard pattern: one in front, the other inside.

Installation of fencing for garden beds

Photos of fences allow you to get an idea of what they can be like. Therefore, after you decide which PVC fence you need, you can move on to studying the issue of installing it. Larger fences that are made from PVC require special skills and knowledge to install. However, this does not apply to PVC garden panels.

The owner will not have to carry out excavation work. to create holes, as well as other operations, since most plastic fences are already equipped with iron bars.

Once immersed in the ground, they will ensure good stability of the entire fence.

In principle, the process of installing PVC fencing of any type is carried out according to a general scheme, so it can be represented in the following stages:

  1. The installation begins with taking measurements of the sides of the bed and adjusting the fence. If the owner plans to use the tape, it will have to be cut. If the choice was made in favor of a plastic fence, then the excess part of the structure will have to be sawed off using the appropriate tools. During such preparation, you must be very careful to ensure that the surface is not damaged. To prevent such mistakes, it is recommended to first mark the dimensions of the fence;
  2. Next, the prepared tape fragments are connected to each other using a regular stapler. If you have chosen another fencing option, then you will not have to carry out this operation;
  3. If you are using tape to enclose a bed, you will first have to dig a shallow trench around the perimeter of the bed. When using other fencing designs, such preparation will not be necessary;
  4. If you chose plastic tape as a fencing, then you should not have any problems installing it. The tape is immersed in the trench, then soil is added on each side and thoroughly compacted. If you choose a fence that is an imitation of a low picket fence, then its installation will be reduced to sticking it into the ground using metal pegs. When each side of the bed is fenced with such a fence, the work of installing the fence can be considered complete;
  5. If you use tape as a fence for the bed, you will need to additionally drive small pegs on each side of the fence. To do this, you can use wooden or metal pegs. You should not neglect this recommendation, especially if you are installing a fence for a large garden bed. In this case, your fence will not last long without pegs.

You can find special types of structures on sale. which have a groove on one side and a peg on the other. Such plastic blocks differ from others in that they allow the construction of a two-tier fence. Most often, such blocks have a hole in the center where you can drive a wooden peg, which will allow you to fix the fence to the ground. To make the fence look more attractive, the grooves can be masked using special plugs.

How to install plastic mesh?

To prevent the plastic mesh from becoming deformed, you must adhere to the following installation instructions:

  1. Dig metal or wooden pegs around the perimeter of the bed. It is advisable that the distance between them be about a meter, then the mesh will not be deformed.
  2. If the height of the grid does not suit you, then make a narrow trench. Then the excess part of the fence can be hidden underground.
  3. Attach one end of the mesh to the first peg using strong wire or special construction ties. This needs to be done in at least two places, it all depends on the height of the fence.
  4. Stretch the mesh well around the perimeter of the bed.
  5. Finally, reattach the plastic mesh to the peg.

Border tape: technical characteristics and installation work

Plastic border is a popular and convenient fencing. It costs less than other types, is easy to install and looks beautiful. It is sold in the form of plastic tapes, the length of which depends on the specific manufacturer. The material is very thin, about 0.5-2 mm, and the height is 10 cm and above. The choice depends on the height of the plants planted on the site. Using border tape you can create beds of any shape. Ribbons come in wavy, corrugated and a variety of colors. This does not affect the practicality of the material in any way, only the appearance of the site. Border tapes can be used to fence country sidewalks: gravel will not spill out through them. Plastic tapes can be used to protect shrubs that grow from the roots. Wide borders from 25 cm are designed for sloping beds so that water does not drain from them when watering. You can use tapes to fence off the perimeter of the greenhouse to prevent weeds from entering it from the outside.

To install the border tape, you only need one assistant. Before installation, you will have to dig a shallow trench around the bed and install pegs in the corners and perimeter. Stakes are usually sold as a set with a border. The distance at which the pegs are placed is written in the instructions for the kit. Next, the curb is stretched, and the ditch is filled with earth. In winter, it is better to cover the curbs with something; you should not step on them either.

Fencing made of plastic panels

Why do gardeners increasingly prefer plastic fencing? It's all about its advantages over other types.

Do-it-yourself beds made of plastic panels are easy to assemble, and their installation does not require much effort. And such a fence will last for many years, because the same things that are so typical of metal and wood will not happen to it. It will not rot, will not become covered with mold, mildew and rust, and will not decompose in the ground. And due to the fact that during installation the plastic panels are buried in the soil, the likelihood of weeds getting into the beds is reduced. It is worth noting that plastic does not emit any harmful substances and the soil is not polluted. Also, water and fertilizers used to treat the plants will not flow outside the beds.

Another undoubted advantage of fences made of plastic panels is the wide variety in creating shapes and decor.

How to make beds from PVC window sills?

  1. Tools and materials
  2. Manufacturing technology
  3. Useful tips

Every gardener has encountered the problem when raised beds quickly lose their shape, which can be caused by rain, the quality of the soil (with a predominant amount of sand) or after removing weeds (especially if a hoe is used or the weeds have a strong root).
Recently, instead of wooden and metal fences, plastic material has been actively used to prevent shedding: plastic boards, panels. The most durable and long-lasting fencing is considered to be a fence made from PVC window sills. In addition, the design can be done with your own hands without much hassle.

Do-it-yourself fencing for garden beds - how is a plastic fence made?

As mentioned above, such fences are very easy to install even if you have no experience.

Instructions for installing a bed made of plastic panels with your own hands:

  1. Take measurements of the bed. You need to know the width and length.
  2. Make the necessary marks on the plastic panel.
  3. Start cutting pieces of plastic. This must be done carefully, without damaging the material or injuring yourself. It is better to use a small saw or large utility knife. Plastic is easy to cut, so you don't need to use much force. Simply measure the desired size, draw a cut line and run a knife along it. Repeat the cut if necessary. Then you need to lightly press on the cut line. For one bed you need four pieces of plastic.
  4. Dig a narrow trench around the perimeter of the bed. Its depth can be arbitrary, but not less than four centimeters. If the height of a bed made of plastic panels with your own hands should be small, then there is no need to shorten the material. Just make the trench deeper.
  5. Place the panels in the trench and dig them in on both sides. Compact the earth. If you bought special plastic panels, then they come with pegs, thanks to which the sides of the fence are connected. If you used plastic left over after the repair, then put special corners on the joints.

DIY making

Regardless of what type of plastic fencing you plan to install, in any case it will require certain financial costs. What solution can be offered if the summer resident is not ready to allocate the necessary amount to purchase a fence? The first thing that might come to mind here is to use other materials at hand to fence the bed. However, this will still not be a very good solution to the problem. But you can do it differently - make a plastic fence with your own hands .

Most often, gardeners who decide to implement such an idea use ownerless plastic bottles. In principle, this should not be surprising, given that this container is lying around in huge quantities in various places.

  1. Before you start building a fence from plastic bottles, they need to be prepared. First you need to cut off the narrow part of the bottle, while also capturing the neck, approximately in the middle. During this work, you need to strive to ensure that the remaining part of the bottle differs as little as possible from the other containers that you will use to make fencing for the beds;
  2. Next, the cut bottles are filled with earth, after which it is necessary to dig a shallow trench, which should run along the perimeter of the area where the fence will be installed;
  3. The bottles are then turned upside down and placed into this groove. To maintain the horizontality of the fence, it doesn’t hurt to first install pegs at the ends of the groove and pull a cord between them so that, using it as a guide, you can align the elements of the fence;
  4. After all the prepared bottles are in the ditch, the voids are filled with soil and compacted.

If you want your fence to look original, it is recommended to use bottles of different colors . This way you will not only save on making a fence for the garden bed, but you will also be able to give this area of your site a special attractiveness.

Reviews of plastic fencing

For the most part, gardeners positively characterize plastic fencing for beds and flower beds made from panels.

Most often they are chosen due to the low cost of the material. After all, for the money that will be spent on purchasing the required number of plastic panels, you will not be able to purchase the same amount of slate, metal or decorative stone.

Gardeners also prefer plastic because its installation does not require specific knowledge and skills. Therefore, even someone who has never done anything like this can construct a fence.

Summer residents also like plastic fences because they can be used to create different heights of beds. If you want a low flower bed, then install one panel. If you need a raised bed, just add a second one. This is easy to do thanks to special slats along the edges of the panel.

Based on the foregoing, we can conclude that in garden plots you can increasingly see flower beds and beds with vegetables and herbs fenced with plastic panels.

A set of ready-made fencing for garden beds made of thick PVC profiles.

Do you want to dig up the soil less often, but still want it to remain fertile?

At the same time, don’t you have the desire to often weed and be distracted by pest control?

Then stationary beds made from modern plastic profiles are exactly what you need!

The length of the resulting bed is 4 meters, width is 75 cm.

Such beds give a neat, well-groomed appearance, they can be watered less often, weeded less often, and they are easy, pleasant and convenient to process. They need to be dug up much less often. High sides allow you to create “warm” fertile beds and constantly get more harvest.

Very convenient, practical and beautiful: these are Dayas beds with sides 180 mm high made of durable PVC profile (plastic board). These beds do not rust like iron, do not rot like wood, and do not crack like slate. They are absolutely not afraid of moisture. They do not need to be painted or protected with anything - they are “ready to use.” They carefully enclose the soil you have formed and do it effectively, simply, reliably and beautifully.

Thick and high sides

The side of the beds has a cross-section of 180 * 20 mm, which is 40 (.) times thicker than the thin sides of metal beds: 20 mm versus 0.5 mm! Dayas beds do not bend and they do not need any supports from the outside!

Thoughtful design and high-quality fasteners

To connect the sides in Dayas beds, galvanized steel fasteners are used so that the sides of long beds do not diverge to the sides; transverse plastic ties are provided that will never rot underground.

Versatility of sizes

Dayas beds are formed from ready-made kits and are assembled like a construction kit. They can be built to any length, width and even height! Buy the required number of kits and create your own unique garden bed!

"Warm" beds

You can get any height of Dayas beds, in multiples of 18 cm. The design provides for a vertical connection of the beds. For this purpose there is a special set of fasteners for interfloor connections. High beds (more than 75 cm) are used as “warm beds”, which consist of several layers of filler and therefore require high sides. Warm beds are indispensable in areas with short summers and rocky soil, since the layers constantly rot, generate heat and constantly add fertile soil to the bed that is not around.

Safe beds

On beds made of wooden boards, you can catch a splinter, you can easily cut yourself on the sharp edges of metal, or tear your clothes. And if you have Dayas beds, then neither you nor your children will ever get hurt. After all, the edges of the plastic sides are smooth and curved inside the bed.

Always beautiful

Dayas beds have an aesthetically finished appearance, a pleasant color, and a special finishing edging covers the ends of the sides. They are easy to clean and even after 50 years they will look like new.

Transportable and mobile

Each set of beds is packed in a small cardboard box. It can be easily carried in the hands of one person, not to mention a passenger car. You can always dismantle the bed and transport it to another place if you are planning to move.

Moisture resistant and durable

The composition of the plastic in Dayas beds is the same as the composition of plastic windows, so the beds will not dry out or warp, rot, turn black, turn to dust, peel off or rust over time. They will also go to your grandchildren.

Profitable

The cost of Dayas monumental beds is lower than the cost of beds made of thin metal. Unlike wood, you don’t need to spend money on periodic painting, protection from insects, and considering that Dayas beds have a lifetime guarantee*, this is a truly profitable investment in your dacha.

The fastest way to remove the protective film on a window is on the day it is installed.

The instructions for implementing the cleaning procedure are very simple:

  1. Using a thin sharp object (knife, spatula, scissors), you need to pry off the edge of the coating. As a rule, it consists of two layers. The first opaque one contains an indication of the manufacturer and its advertising. The second (transparent) is located under the first: it is this that needs to be pryed off. On windows, it is better to start cleaning in the upper corner for the side parts of the frame, and from any edge for the top strip. When cleaning the window sill, it is recommended to peel off the protective layer from the left or right end. When using metal objects, you must be careful to avoid damaging your hands or the plastic surface.
  2. Pull the folded edge down (or to the side). You must act carefully, avoiding tearing the film. If the glue is still fresh, it can be removed quite easily, making a characteristic creaking sound. In this case, it is possible to remove solid fragments from the entire plank at once. While dismantling the coating, you should avoid contact of its back with the glass: fresh glue may leave marks on them. It is advisable to work with gloves, because... the film sometimes sticks to your hands. Removed packaging is immediately thrown into the trash bin.

  3. Wash the frame and window sill. After the protective coating is removed, the plastic frame and window sill must be wiped with a damp sponge or rag, adding a delicate detergent to the water. This way the remaining adhesive is removed.

In cases where window cleaning is carried out after the slopes have been installed, some difficulties may arise. The fact is that finishing materials on slopes sometimes partially overlap the film, pinching it during removal. It is impossible to use sudden movements in such a situation, otherwise the finishing of the slope may be damaged.

To prevent this from happening, before tearing off the coating must be carefully trimmed with a sharp knife along the entire perimeter of the slope. If, after removing the packaging, small fragments of it stick out in the area of contact between the frame, window sill and slopes, they are trimmed again. This task is quite troublesome, so if the material for the slope extends onto the film, it is better to remove it before finishing work begins.

Useful tips

PVC window sills are a fairly strong, durable and non-toxic material. The only negative is the high price, which ranges from 500 to 3500 rubles for 1 panel. Because of this, in some cases it is more profitable to use more affordable material for the manufacture of fences. Well, if you have used window sills, then such beds will be the best option for preventing spring erosion of the soil, the entry of weeds from the outside, and the accumulation of ants in the ground.

One of the most convenient heights for a garden bed is considered to be 45 cm, since this is the case when you don’t need to raise a full watering can very high when watering. And while weeding you won’t need to squat. In addition, experienced gardeners note that at the specified height, the risk of weed seeds entering from other beds is minimized. But to fill such a box you will need a lot of land, especially if the entire length of the window sill (6 m) is used.

It is not recommended to plant seedlings or sow seeds close to the box, since the plastic heats up quite well in the sun, and the plant can get burned. In regions with warm winters, the manufactured structure can be left in the garden after harvesting, which justifies the efforts made to fill a large box with earth.

During severe winters, it is recommended to move the structures to a warmer place during the cold period, which will prevent cracking of the window sill.

If desired, you can make multi-tiered boxes, which will significantly save space in the garden and give the structure an original look. It is convenient to grow turnips, carrots, radishes, beets, etc. in multi-tiered beds.

The box does not need to be dug deep into the ground. But if for some reason you need a higher bed, but it is not possible to increase the height (for example, due to the lack of additional panels), then you can screw long pegs in the corners that extend beyond the box on one side. It is this side that the fence is installed in the ground. PVC window sill fences can be painted with any paint. This need will arise if the structure has been standing outside for several years, since under the influence of sunlight the material will begin to turn yellow in places.

PVC panels on a personal plot will not only help organize plantings and give the area an aesthetic appearance, but will be a good alternative to wooden and metal fences, since ants do not accumulate under them, like under a tree. They do not rust from rain, like metal, and retain their original appearance for a long time. If you can find used panels, they will become an excellent material from which, using your imagination, you can create original multi-tiered beds.

Is decking generally suitable for garden beds?

WPC beds are an excellent alternative to metal products. They are no less practical, but fit more organically into the landscape due to their texture. And they have significant advantages compared to beds made of ordinary wood.

WPC boards are supplied in the form of ready-made kits for manual assembly.

The composition of the products is wood-polymer composite. This is an environmentally friendly material. The composite can allow air to pass through, and this distinguishes it favorably from pure plastic or metal. It is obtained from wood waste and plastic. These components can be mixed in different proportions. The ratio of raw materials is usually as follows: 60% wood flour and 40% PVC resin and special additives. The composition may vary depending on the manufacturer.

The material has many advantages in the country:

  • the high hardness of the products makes them inaccessible to rodents and ants;
  • weeds.
  • WPC does not rot and at the same time retains moisture well, which reduces the number of waterings;
  • beds made of plastic boards prevent soil subsidence, and WPC fences are a reliable barrier to the spread of weeds (due to their height and some insulation of the soil);
  • the boards do not harbor mold and mildew, as well as woodworms and other parasites;
  • The WPC bed board contains air pockets. The hollow structure of the profiles allows you to maintain optimal temperature inside the site and prevent sudden changes when the weather changes.

This design boasts a well-groomed and aesthetic appearance. The sides guarantee the absence of dirt and puddles. The front part imitates the color and texture of natural wood.

In addition to their aesthetic appearance, WPC boards are easy to use and do not require additional painting or other maintenance. You can easily assemble the box yourself using profiles, metal connectors and swivel plastic hinges. Various sizes allow you to create structures of varying shapes and heights. Low, medium and high warm beds made of WPC are available. The height of the boards allows you to create a fertile layer sufficient for good yield.

The surface of the products is perfectly smooth, which guarantees the safety of the user (eliminates the possibility of splinters and scratches). At the same time, the material can be glossy or corrugated. The presence of embossing gives it a greater resemblance to wood. Thus, decking is ideal for creating smooth, aesthetic and durable beds.

Accessories for WPC beds

In order to assemble a box for beds and flower beds from WPC boards, you will need the following components:

  • WPC boards themselves;
  • corner connectors for joining building materials;
  • wooden posts or metal pipes.

Fastening boards for fencing beds made of WPC is carried out using self-tapping screws. If necessary, you can use rotary hinges in the process of assembling boxes for beds.

Warm beds made of WPC

For summer residents and gardeners who know how to use a drill, a hand saw, and a measuring tool, we can advise you to make full-fledged, almost eternal warm beds only from WPC and a one and a half meter section of profiled pipe. The result is a very durable, reliable and no less attractive design.

First of all, it is necessary to cut blanks from WPC boards according to the pre-measured dimensions of the bed on the site

Each wall of the bed will be assembled from two 250x20 mm boards. To do this, we lay a pair of WPC on a pre-cut rack, drill holes for self-tapping screws and attach the wood-polymer walls to the metal pipe.

Drill and screw in self-tapping screws

Next, you need to assemble the finished walls into one box. The boards can be held by hand if you have an assistant, or you can use standard carpentry clamps for fixation.

The length of each metal stand is 15-20 cm greater than the height of the wall, this is enough to secure the box on the soft soil of warm beds.

How to make raised beds from WPC

The use of plastic turning corners ensures very simple assembly and a nice appearance for WPC beds. But their strength is low, and at best they can be used for a single-row body. According to reviews from summer residents, high beds made of WPC are best made using metal connecting brackets, for example, elements as in the photo.

Connecting with brackets is no more difficult than with rotary units

Essentially, these are two sections of rectangular profiled pipe, welded at an angle of 90° to each other. Such parts can be purchased ready-made for a 30x300 mm board or made yourself. Moreover, apart from welding and a clamp, no additional equipment is required.

On welded brackets it is possible to assemble high beds made of WPC of almost unlimited height. In practice, they are made with a box wall height of up to one meter.

Advice from professionals

Despite the fact that most manufacturers claim the high durability of the wood-polymer composite, it is best to assemble and install WPC beds not on earthen soil, but on gravel or rocky backfill. Constant contact with wet soil often leads to discoloration of the decorative surface.

If you use WPC to make warm beds, it would be correct to place plastic film inside the box. Firstly, this will protect the WPC material from the rather aggressive effects of manure, ammonium nitrate and their processed products. Secondly, there will be no traces or stains on the seams between the boards from leaking water after watering.

Advice from experienced gardeners

Before starting work, it is worth considering the following points:

  • Initially, it is worth making the appropriate measurements according to which the building material will be purchased;
  • It is advisable to study reviews about beds made of WPC, which will allow you to immediately understand what exactly you will have to face;
  • in order to significantly reduce costs, you can prepare columns and corners yourself;
  • If necessary, the material can be additionally treated with special compounds, which will significantly increase its service life.

WPC panels for garden beds should be purchased from trusted suppliers who sell only high-quality products. Before purchasing, you should check the building material for authenticity and inspect it for defective units.

Collapsible beds

Such structures are created from a rigid plastic base. They are made of a certain length, and with the help of the components you can assemble the bed that is needed, that is, of any size. This plastic is more rigid and can be assembled to the height required by the gardener. A very common fence is called “Garden Board”. The appearance resembles a light or dark board, but unlike a natural product, plastic has a number of advantages:

  1. Does not deteriorate when in contact with water.
  2. Does not lose its attractiveness, since the paint does not fade over time.
  3. There is no need to constantly treat such boards to protect them from bad natural conditions.

The board is sold in various lengths, but the maximum length is limited to 3 m, with a width of 15 cm. This allows you to assemble a frame of the required size. All fasteners are of a standard type, which greatly simplifies assembly.
