Road slabs: properties, classification
Road slabs are the number one reinforced concrete structure in road construction. These products must withstand the weight of vehicles traveling almost 24/7 year after year. At the same time, the slabs are not always laid on stable soil - for example, in the northern parts of Russia, the basis for them is swampy soil. Therefore, when intending to buy road slabs, the contractor carrying out the order for road construction is primarily interested in the strength class of these structures.
So, the first and main criterion for classifying these products is their level of strength. Road slabs produced today are divided into two large groups:
- slabs for the construction of temporary roads. According to GOST 21924.0-84, the basis for such road slabs should be M300 concrete. Having much less weight than slabs for permanent roads, such reinforced concrete products are not equipped with mounting brackets. Such characteristics fully satisfy the quality requirements for temporary roads;
- slabs for capital laying of the roadway. In this case, the state standard prescribes the use of higher quality M400 concrete. Additional strengthening of the product is provided by stressed reinforcement. For ease of installation, such road slabs are equipped with special brackets. An example is road slabs of the PDN modification, which are considered super-strong and suitable for the construction of a capital road.
Another criterion for classifying road slabs is their shape. It can be rectangular, with one or two combined sides, or trapezoidal. The shape of the road slabs will determine the method of their subsequent laying, and in many ways, the speed of installation.
A few more criteria for choosing road slabs
Of course, the classification of road slabs does not end with a division based only on strength and shape. The choice of one of the many subtypes of these products is influenced by a number of factors: what is the type of soil in the area where it is planned to lay the roadway, what will be the tonnage of transport and the intensity of its traffic on the road. In addition, you need to take into account the average temperature of the warm and cold seasons and the average annual precipitation. Thus, PDN road slabs are considered ideal for access to facilities operated in the off-season, when constant rains make traffic difficult.
GOST 21924.0-84 requirement for road slabs
In general, GOST 21924.0-84 puts forward the following requirements for all road slabs produced in our country:
- high level of strength;
- wear resistance;
- immunity to moisture;
- durability of operation;
- ability to withstand the weight of large-tonnage transport without deformation;
- the ability to maintain physical properties regardless of environmental conditions;
- exact compliance with the declared shape, dimensions, etc.
And, of course, an important factor in choosing road slabs is price. The higher the class of concrete used to make the slabs, the higher their final cost will be. We sell at an affordable price more than 30 product units of this type of product: PDS 3x1, PD 20.15-6, PDN 4x2. Here you can select road slabs based on strength level, dimensions, shape and other parameters. Exact compliance of our products with GOST 21924.0-84 will help you comply with your obligations regarding road construction. Your project will be completed on time with proper quality, which means it will be accepted on time.

What are road slabs GOST 21924 intended for?
The slabs produced by specialized enterprises are made from heavy grades of concrete M200-M400 and can be reinforced with prestressed reinforcing bars.
This allows them to be widely used in the field of road construction to solve various problems:
- construction of highways with permanent road connections;
- construction of temporary roads for vehicles.
Depending on the brand, the slabs may have different sizes and, of course, prices.
Reinforced concrete products are intended for the following purposes:
- road construction in urban areas;
- construction of road surfaces for squares and squares;
- improvement of access roads;
- construction of roads in the northern regions;
- formation of the surface of airfield runways;
- resurfacing of old roads;
- arrangement of a reliable foundation in quarries;
- improvement of tram tracks;
- construction of highways.
Products, depending on the brand, are capable of withstanding a significant load per square meter of surface, ranging from 10 to 30 tons. They have increased wear resistance and can be used in cold climate zones at temperatures of minus 40 degrees Celsius and below.
Main scope of application.
Road slabs are used to construct roads. These are high-strength elements and can be used to organize both temporary and permanent road surfaces. Car tonnage is calculated as N-10 and N-30, road slab elements 1P 18-15-10
these loads can withstand, as they have a certain margin of safety. The main area of use is a component in city roads.
Unlike asphalt pavement, these reinforced concrete products 2P30-18-10
They last much longer without breaking or cracking. Due to high-quality raw materials, these plates can operate in fairly “harsh” environmental conditions. So the average estimated temperature in winter can reach up to -40 degrees. The slabs are placed on a special sand-crushed stone bedding, which eliminates the harmful effects of the alkaline soil environment on the products.
Rectangular 2P30-18-10 have a slight corrugation on the surface, so asphalt or other coating can be laid on top. The uneven surface ensures good adhesion of materials. Since chloride salts are actively used when icing the roadway, rectangular slabs must undergo special chemical treatment, which significantly improves performance characteristics. Modern methods of processing building materials make it possible to obtain ultra-strong and wear-resistant products.

It is in wide demand in road construction. It is mainly used to construct pavements on temporary roads.
Description and scope of the product
The road slab 2P 30.18-10 has a flat rectangular shape with working surface dimensions of 3000x1750 mm and a height of 170 mm. The maximum design load on the slab is 10 tons. Another, reinforced modification 2P 30.18-30 has the same dimensions, but greater strength.
The plate has a corrugated working surface and four recesses on the sides. The corrugation provides better traction with vehicle wheels, and the recesses serve to hide mounting loops in them. If you lay the hinges on the top surface, such as in PT floor slabs, they will stick out from the surface of the road surface and, even when cut, can pose a danger to vehicle tires.
Weight, volume, dimensions of slab 2P 30.18-10
Road slabs 2P 30-18-10 are most widely used in the construction of temporary roads. For example, if you need to quickly organize transport access to a facility under construction. The plates can be reused many times. When the facility is built and there is no longer a need for a temporary road, the coating can be dismantled and transferred to a new facility. This feature makes the use of plates economically profitable. With each such cycle for one product Road slab 2p 30.18-10, the price pays off more and more.
Laying
To ensure better stability, the slabs are installed on a compacted sand bed. The weight of one slab is about 2.2 tons, so special equipment is used for the work. After laying the slabs, they are tied together and the seams are filled with mortar. Immediately after laying all the slabs, the coating is ready for use.
Design 2P30.18-10
Road slabs 2P30.18-10 for temporary roads are made from extra-heavy concrete with a density of at least 2500 kg/m. cube Concrete M200...M300 has this density, having a compressive strength class of at least B22.5-B30.
The length of road slabs for temporary road surfaces does not exceed three meters. They are reinforced with unstressed welded mesh made from AI…A-III steel. Thanks to the use of high-quality mesh, the bending strength of the slabs is significantly increased and allows them to be used in regions with estimated seismic activity of up to 6 points on the Richter scale.
The outer surface of the slab has a special rhombic corrugation, which improves the adhesion of the road surface to the car wheels. When applying asphalt, better adhesion to the slab surface is ensured. However, it should be noted that a concrete slab is preferable to asphalt pavement, as it can withstand sudden temperature fluctuations and is not subject to the destructive effects of both high and low temperatures. Road slabs produced by the domestic industry correspond to classes no worse than F150 and W2 in terms of frost resistance and moisture permeability, respectively.
Road slabs are equipped with mounting loops, with the help of which the road surface is laid. In some cases, instead of hinges, slabs are equipped with special elements for loopless installation.
